'Skins coach defends embattled Snyder: 'Enough's enough'

ASHBURN, Va. -- Washington Redskins defensive coordinator Greg Blache broke his media silence Thursday to defend the man who pays his salary, saying "Enough's enough" when it comes to criticism of owner Dan Snyder.

Blache said he was moved to speak after reading comments made by Hall of Fame running back John Riggins, who called Snyder a "bad guy" whose "heart is dark" in an interview for Showtime's Inside the NFL.

"That's totally, totally untrue," Blache said. "And the problem is the fans don't get to know Mr. Snyder like we do, and so they get an impression of things that are written and things people say."

Blache said his family has been helped by Snyder, and that the owner has supported Blache's involvement in hospice. Blache then called Snyder "one of the most generous, kind individuals you could ever meet."

Snyder has been a popular target for criticism from fans, ex-players and pundits for the state of the Redskins, who are 2-5 and have won only two playoff games in his 10 years of ownership. Snyder broke his own media silence earlier this week to apologize to the fans on behalf of the organization.

"We've had criticism from other people outside the building saying what Dan Snyder is and what he isn't ... they don't know Dan Snyder," Blache said. "And that's the problem. Do I agree with everything Dan Snyder does? No. Just trust me, because he and I, we work together, and I'm not gonna tell you that this is a utopia. But there's no utopias in football. There's no utopias in life. But at the same time, enough's enough."

Blache, who stopped speaking to the media four weeks ago for unspecified reasons, walked away after his statement and did not take questions.

After practice, coach Jim Zorn supported Blache's position, saying: "I would concur that Dan Snyder is a guy that absolutely cares about other people."

"Some of the words that are said are just so harsh," Zorn said. "All the time. It just seems like everybody's down, and part of that is on me. We're losing, and that creates issues. And I think that's more of the problem than anything, is losing, and I want to help change that."

Just for the record, anyone who says Riggins is overrated as a running back is like every other running back in the Pro Football Hall of Fame is overrated! As a commentator? Now that’s another story.

Despite his hall of fame football career, Riggins is a media personality who trades on his name like so many other former Redskin players in the Washington metro area where credibility is barely ...(more)

I am not even a skins fan but as a Ravens fan I would be pissed if some of his policies were implemented in Baltimore.  is Synder that sensitive that he wont allow signs in the stadium?  Its not a safety issue he just doesnt want the critisim to be on TV.  He blocked media from doing interviews in Staduim lots!  A few ye ...(more)

All Washington Redskin fans should absolutely be pissed off at owner Daniel Snyder as he's done an extraordinarily poor job and there's no getting around that fact. In a lot of ways he reminds me of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in his meddling of player acquisitions etc. Damiel Snyder, just Jerry "Hillbilly" Jones has n ...(more)

Greg opens his mouth after so long and sticks up for his boss. What person wouldnt stick up for your boss who signs his pay check! What im trying to say is that He says that he is a good person and does this and does that. So be it. No one that i know has ever said he was a bad person or wasnt good for the community or for his players and staff etc. etc.! The man lacks no, NO Football sense and un ...(more)

This guy was overrated as a player, imagine a real quality back behind that incredible "hogs" line from the early 80's.  He's just looking for publicity so that he can make more money to buy more maddog 20/20.  If he was worth anything, somebody would have hired him all those years he was trying to latch on as a coach somehwere.  Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to through ...(more)

The owner isn't the problem in Washington IT'S THE QB HE STINKS. They could have
won more games (including beating the super bowl bound Eagles). But he wouldn't
stay with his primary receiver. Instead he'd look to dump off a 3yd pass. The season
is over for Washington why not try another QB?????

And what exactly did Greg Blache accomplish by running to Danny Snyder's defense? NOTHING. All he did was prove that his head is so far up Dan's a$$ that he can't even breathe or think for himself anymore and see the real truth. The problem in DC is that the owner is a rich idiot who knows nothing about football or what it takes to build up a successful organization. C'mon Danny, its time to final ...(more)

No, that's not the reason. But it's nice to see that "The Diesel" has some refills left on his med's and still enjoys beer for breakfast (who doesn't). I can't understand why the media hasn't pointed out the obvious reason that John Riggins hates Daniel Snyder. It's not because he doesn't know anything about football. Snyder didn't know anything about football back when Riggins supported ...(more)

Oh Greg, You have the best view.  Could you check and see whether Dan needs any more Preparation H while you're back there?  Let's see what you think of Dan when he guts the whole coaching staff in a week or two.

Well Blache certainly seems to have read the get along with Dan Snyder playbook published by Vinni "knee pads" Cerrato.

Nothing like a deep full throated defense of the owner to make Blache the odds on favorite for the January 2010 Redskins coaching vacancy.
