Ex-Giants star Taylor arrested after hit-and-run crash

MIAMI -- Former football star Lawrence Taylor has been released on bond following his arrest in a Miami-area traffic accident.

According to Miami-Dade County jail records, Taylor was charged Sunday with leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, a second-degree misdemeanor. He was released on $500 bond later that night. It was not immediately clear if Taylor has an attorney.

A Florida Highway Patrol spokesman says Taylor was involved in a hit-and-run crash Sunday in Hialeah. Taylor told investigators he thought he had hit a guard rail. There were no injuries and troopers didn't conduct a sobriety test.

Taylor is a former New York Giants linebacker. He was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1999. He also competed in ABC's Dancing With the Stars this year.

I was wondering how old LT is when I read the headline. What the heck is he doing making a comeback at his age? Then, I saw it had something to do with an auto accident. Oh, man. Here we go again. LT's back on the juice, I thought. But, they never gave the dude a sobriety test? There's a lot of questions to be asked about this one.

Without much in the way of facts, let's see what conclusions we can draw.  LT maintains that he thought he hit a guard rail.  Certainly he acknowledges he hit something.  Yet, it doesn't seem likely that the police would have any reason to follow up after the fact on someone hitting a guard rail.  Apparently, there was "property damage."  And if they saw him d ...(more)

We always complain about reporters that don't investigate before writing a story and jump to conclusions before the facts are available. Yet I sit here and see people assume that LT was drunk or on drugs and somehow was given preferential treatment because he's a celebrity. I'm not suggesting that any of those assumptions are wrong. I just don't understand why we can't just wait for the facts to c ...(more)

Taylor was such a great player - legend - that he will pass through the tangles with his reputation enhanced by the incident. Since there were no injuries, that ain't all that bad. Hmmm, funny there was no sobriety test given. You have figured that he would have been holding SOME drug - pot, coke, maybe a handgun.

Its all good LT. You picked the right place to hit and run. Miami has a court system that can be bought. The last NFL player that was drunk and ran over a person and killed them only served 24 days in jail. Then the KILLER was suppose to be on house arrest. But he wa ...(more)

what the hell was he doing leaving the scene of an accident? Is he broke again? Other than fear of jailtime money might be the only other reason to run from an accident... but even then there's insurance to pay for things.

However, the $500 bail might indicate that the severity of the accident was not too high. Normally these things are in the $1,000s of dollars.

After seeing a real LB in the number 56 Sunday afternoon rushing the passer better than he ever did.

And when is this guy going to stop using LaDainian Tomlinson's initials?

Great role model, smoking crack before games and acting like an idiot.  It's always something with this guy, glad that Ladainian stole his NFL handle, Taylor is the criminal "L.T."

NO DUI TEST...??  LET ANYONE, regardless of race, with his past info get pulled over and tell me they wouldnt have done a sobriety test.   Cop was a jock sniffer, who needs to be fired.    Chalk one more up to everyday folks putting these, bad people, er, I mean athletes, on a pedastal.

He knew he hit something and because he thought it was the gaurd rail he just drove away.  1.  How do you not really know what you hit? 2.  Why would you have hit the gaurd rail?  3. Wouldn't you check to see how much damage you did to your own vehicle if you smashed into a gaurd rail?   L.T's excuse is full of problems and the police department should do some expl ...(more)

Given the state of the Giants defense maybe they can bring LT in as a pass rush specialist in an attempt to bolster the sagging unit.
