Down at 1-7, Browns switch back to Quinn at QB

BEREA, Ohio -- Brady Quinn is getting his second chance at starting.

Quinn, benched just 10 quarters into the season for Derek Anderson, will start for the Cleveland Browns in Monday night game against the Baltimore Ravens. He was pulled at halftime of the Browns' 34-3 loss to Baltimore on Sept. 27, and will make his return against one of the NFL's toughest defenses.

"I'm excited to play," Quinn said. "I'm excited to be a part of Monday night. Every team in the NFL is tough, them especially. We've got our hands full right now."

Browns coach Eric Mangini has decided to go back to Quinn after Anderson went 1-4 as a starter and posted the NFL's lowest quarterback rating (36.2). Mangini said he would like to stick with Quinn for the remainder of the season.

Quinn went 6 of 8 for 34 yards with one interception before being pulled in Week 3 for Anderson, who completed only 43 percent of his passes, threw two TDs and nine interceptions in the past five games.

Now that Brady Quinn is back it begs this question: Why did they sit him in the first place? Read more

Mangini has been impressed with Quinn's work ethic since being demoted.

"He's had good weeks of practice," Mangini said. "He's worked hard since the first transition was made. I look forward to him taking advantage of this opportunity and helping us improve."

Quinn, who is 1-5 in six career starts, will try to kickstart an offense that has produced just five touchdowns -- two less than New Orleans' defense -- and is ranked 30th in scoring, 31st in total yards and 32nd in passing yards.

Quinn said he's not looking at the opportunity to start again as a second chance.

"I think it's hard to view it like that," he said. "The biggest thing right now is to get some things going on offense and improve some things for us."

Anderson, a Pro Bowler in 2007, declined an interview request during locker room availability.

This Cleveland Browns team is so dreadful that simply calling them bad is a gross understatement. At this point I don't think it much matters who plays QB for the rest of the season. If Tom Brady or Peyton Manni ...(more)

At this point, does it really matter who starts at QB for for cleveland? It's a much bigger problem than that. It's an inept organization and the root cause is a reclusive owner that doesn't know jack about how to build a quality organization. How many more coaching changes (and I've got a feeling another one is coming before long) before Lerner wakes up and realizes the only way to fix this mess ...(more)

It doesn't matter who the quarterback is if you are losing by 20 oints and only throw the ball 12 times a game.  Look at the last few games and the Browns have been getting blown out and they still don't pass the ball.  It could be Brady Quinn back there, or even ...(more)

I bet the NFL schedulers wish they could redo this game. Is anybody, including Cleveland fans, going to watch this train wreck? Baltimore fans will, and should. Their team is getting ready to open a big ole can of whoop a$$. It's not bad enough that they are an embarrassment this year, but to potentially have the entire nation tune in to witness it???? And as for QB???? I'm sure the third string Q ...(more)

It doesn't seem like any surprise as to what's going on here.  Quinn had a clause in his contract where if he played X percentage or snaps this season, he was due a sizeable bonus.  So, they bench him for half a year, now in week 8 decide that he's ready to start.  Do they really think the public is dumb enough to not see through them?  It's not like Anderson was playing well e ...(more)

Honestly, if they decided to put Kosar back in a helmet rather than the front office, we'd have no less chance of winning.  It doesn't matter who our QB is.  The Browns are crap.  But they're our crap, so we love them anyway.

Hey Cleveland fans, I know you don't really believe that your QB is solely your issue.  I would put it more on the Oline and the running game.  You guys complain about a dysfunctional franchise, how bout them Bills.  Your team won, one of the ugliest football games I have ever seen.

I, like yourselves, am tired o

The Ravens have their problems, but they're a far cry from Cleveland's dysfunction.  I hope Mangini is planning on giving Brady a "pass" on this week's MNF, because as bad as the Ravens D has been, they're still going to shred the Browns O-line and bury Quinn in the turf, make h ...(more)

The Browns have gone from little chance to win to no chance to win with Quinn as the starting QB. What they need to do is fire Eric Mangini who created this mess in Cleveland and get a real coach who can help them out.

(POLL) The Browns have been so bad this year whether its the fans, the player, or Eric Mangenius; from what I know the quarterback controversy is heating up even though both of the players suck who would you start at qb.

After much deliberation and the ridiculous flip flopping of Mangini and Browns mgt., the team decides to bring back Bernis Kosar to hopefully save the 2009 season.
