Steelers list Big Ben as emergency quarterback against Ravens

BALTIMORE -- The Pittsburgh Steelers placed quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and backup Charlie Batch on the inactive list for Sunday night's game, leaving third-stringer Dennis Dixon as the starter against the Baltimore Ravens.

Rothlisberger sustained a concussion late in last Sunday's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs when his head struck the knee of linebacker Derrick Jackson. Batch broke his left wrist a few plays after Rothlisberger went out.

Pittsburgh listed Rothlisberger as its third quarterback, meaning he would only play in an emergency. The Steelers signed former Pitt quarterback Tyler Palko on Thursday to back up Dixon, who was to make his first career start. Dixon has thrown one pass in two years in the league.

The Steelers' other inactives were cornerback Keenan Lewis, safety Troy Polamalu, guards Kraig Urbik and Chris Kemoeatu, and defensive ends Sunny Harris and Nick Eason.

Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs missed his second straight game with a knee injury. Baltimore's other inactives were cornerback Cary Williams, fullback Charles Ali, linebacker Antwan Barnes, tackles Oneil Cousins and Tony Moll and nose tackle Kelly Tavalou.

John Beck was the Ravens' third quarterback.
