| Pete Prisco's live draft analysis - Round 3 | ||
| No. 65: Rams select: Jerome Murphy, CB, South Florida | Grade | |
| Analysis: The Rams need help on the corner and Murphy was a two-year starter at South Florida. He is a taller corner who lacks great man cover skills. But he is a willing tackler, which the Rams need. | ||
| No. 66: Lions select: Amari Spievey, CB, Iowa | Grade | |
| Analysis: The Lions need an upgrade at corner and this kid started two years for the Hawkeyes. He doesn't have burner speed, but he is good in coverage. He might remind Jim Schwartz some of Cortland Finnegan, who he had in Tennessee. | ||
| No. 67: Buccaneers select: Myron Lewis, FS, Vanderbilt | Grade | |
| Analysis: The run on corner continues with the biggest of the three. Lewis is the eventual replacement for Ronde Barber. He is a big corner at 6-2. I like this pick. The Bucs have had a good draft. | ||
| No. 68: Chiefs select: Jon Asamoah, OG, Illinois | Grade | |
| Analysis: I like this pick by the Chiefs. They need help on their line and this kid had a second-round grade. He is a tough guy who will help protect Matt Cassel. | ||
| No. 69: Raiders select: Jared Veldheer, OT, Hillsdale | Grade | |
| Analysis: The tackle-needy Raiders take a small-school player who has ability but needs seasoning. The scouts say this kid is a year or two away. But he does have talent. Why not Bruce Campbell? | ||
| No. 70: Ravens select: Ed Dickson, TE, Oregon | Grade | |
| Analysis: The Ravens are looking for the replacement for Todd Heap. They land a quality receiving tight end in Dickson. He is another good pick for the Ravens. | ||
| No. 71: Packers select: Morgan Burnett, FS, Georgia Tech | Grade | |
| Analysis: This is a player who should be able to push for time in the back end in a year or two. He has good range and he's also a big hitter. Green Bay lands another good one. | ||
| No. 72: Bills select: Alex Carrington, DE, Arkansas State | Grade | |
| Analysis: He is a raw player from a small school, but a lot of scouts think this kid can develop into a quality end. He will play a 3-4 style, which he has the size to do. | ||
| No. 73: Dolphins select: John Jerry, OT, Mississippi | Grade | |
| Analysis: He is a physical guard who can excel in the run game. I think he has a chance to push for time as a rookie. He won't back down from a scrap. | ||
| No. 74: Jaguars select: D'Anthony Smith, DT, Louisiana Tech | Grade | |
| Analysis: This is a message that John Henderson won't be back. Smith is a really impressive player. I had him on my Better-Than list. He can be explosive. | ||
| No. 75: Bears select: Major Wright, FS, Florida | Grade | |
| Analysis: The Bears need an upgrade at safety and this kid is more athletic than expected. I'm not sure he played that way all the time. But he is an upgrade for the Bears. | ||
| No. 76: Giants select: Chad Jones, SS, LSU | Grade | |
| Analysis: Here's another guy on my Better-Than list. I really like what the Giants have done. Even with Antrel Rolle, Deon Grant and Kenny Phillips, they land another good safety. Jerry Reese is having a nice draft. | ||
| No. 77: Titans select: Damian Williams, WR, USC | Grade | |
| Analysis: Some thought Williams would be a first-round pick. He has that type of ability. Williams will join Kenny Britt to give them a good young pair of receivers. | ||
| No. 78: Panthers select: Brandon LaFell, WR, LSU | Grade | |
| Analysis: He doesn't run as well as some thought, but let's not forget he had a first-round grade at some point. He played with some bad quarterbacks, but he has talent. | ||
| No. 79: Chargers select: Donald Butler, ILB, Washington | Grade | |
| Analysis: The Chargers need an upgrade at inside linebacker and he Butler can help. He runs better than the Chargers inside backers now. That will help him get on the field. | ||
| No. 80: Broncos select: J.D. Walton, C, Baylor | Grade | |
| Analysis: I like this pick for Denver. He is a tough guy who will help inside. They need a center and they get it here in the third round. | ||
| No. 81: Texans select: Earl Mitchell, DT, Arizona | Grade | |
| Analysis: This is a big reach. This kid is raw. He is a converted tight end who has some ability but will need time. They do need help inside, but there were better options. | ||
| No. 82: Steelers select: Emmanuel Sanders, WR, Southern Methodist | Grade | |
| Analysis: He is small receiver who can fill a role in the slot. He knows how to run routes playing in the wide-open offense at SMU. He's polished. | ||
| No. 83: Falcons select: Corey Peters, DT, Kentucky | Grade | |
| Analysis: He's a power player the Falcons need. He was a three-year starter for the Wildcats. He should be in the rotation as a rookie. | ||
| No. 84: Bengals select: Jordan Shipley, WR, Texas | Grade | |
| Analysis: I really like this pick for the Bengals. He is faster than Wes Welker, who is compared to often. I like Shipley in the slot for Carson Palmer. | ||
| No. 85: Browns select: Colt McCoy, QB, Texas | Grade | |
| Analysis: This was a smart pick by the Browns. I really like this. He's smart enough to win the starting job as a rookie. Jake Delhomme isn't the answer. He fits the West Coast offense. | ||
| No. 86: Eagles select: Daniel Te'o-Nesheim, DE, Washington | Grade | |
| Analysis: He's a four-year starter who is a little undersized. He is an effort player who will play with his hand on the ground in the Eagles offense. He's an Andy Reid kind of player. | ||
| No. 87: Broncos select: Eric Decker, WR, Minnesota | Grade | |
| Analysis: This is a pick I like by the Broncos. You can see McDaniels putting him in the Wes Welker role. He is a great athlete, although he doesn't run that well. | ||
| No. 88: Cardinals select: Andre Roberts, WR, Citadel | Grade | |
| Analysis: He's a speedy receiver who will help fill the void left by the trade of Anquan Boldin. He's a smallish receiver, so the slot is perfect for him. | ||
| No. 89: Panthers select: Armanti Edwards, WR, Appalachian State | Grade | |
| Analysis: The Panthers take the quarterback who will likely move to receiver. He has the ability to be a good slot receiver and return man. He could also be used in some special packages. | ||
| No. 90: Patriots select: Taylor Price, WR, Ohio | Grade | |
| Analysis: This was a player who really zoomed up boards in recent weeks. He is a fast player who has good size at 6-foot, 200 pounds. This is a future move for when Randy Moss goes. | ||
| No. 91: 49ers select: Navorro Bowman, OLB, Penn State | Grade | |
| Analysis: This is a kid some had pegged as a first-round pick a year ago. He does have some off-field issues, but he is a good player. This is a solid pick by the 49ers. | ||
| No. 92: Browns select: Shawn Lauvao, OG, Arizona State | Grade | |
| Analysis: He's a college tackle who will likely move inside to guard. He's not tall enough to play tackle. He's a physical player who will maul in the run game. | ||
| No. 93: Chiefs select: Tony Moeaki, TE, Iowa | Grade | |
| Analysis: I like this pick by the Chiefs. This kid has talent. He didn't play up to his level of talent as injuries slowed him some. But if he can stay on the field, he will be a factor in the Kansas City offense. | ||
| No. 94: Colts select: Kevin Thomas, CB, USC | Grade | |
| Analysis: Here's another of my Better-than players. I like his coverage ability. He was a quality starter on a good defense. Bill Polian likes production. He gets another top player from a top conference. | ||
| No. 95: Saints select: Jimmy Graham, TE, Miami | Grade | |
| Analysis: The Saints get a project who can back up Shockey. Graham is a former basketball player who can catch the football, which is perfect for the New Orleans offense. | ||
| No. 96: Bengals select: Brandon Ghee, CB, Wake Forest | Grade | |
| Analysis: He's a bigger corner who could provide depth and a possible replacement if they can't re-sign Joseph or Hall. He is good value here. | ||
| No. 97: Titans select: Rennie Curran , OLB, Georgia | Grade | |
| Analysis: This is a great pick. This kid is small, but he's always around the football. Want to bet he finds his way onto the field as a rookie. | ||
| No. 98: Falcons select: Mike Johnson, OG, Alabama | Grade | |
| Analysis: Here is another player on my Better-Than Team. He is a good player who can also play tackle. The Falcons are looking for help with Blalock entering the final year of his contract. | ||
