Bills' Corto signs extension, forgoes free agency

  •

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- The Buffalo Bills signed backup safety Jon Corto to a two-year contract on Friday, preventing the third-year player from becoming a restricted free agent.

Corto, who is from Orchard Park, has been primarily used on special teams in Buffalo. He appeared in 11 games last season after opening the year on the physically-unable-to-perform list after having surgery in July on a broken left wrist.

Corto was initially signed by the Bills as an undrafted free agent out of Sacred Heart in 2007.

Also, the Bills released linebackers Mike Balogun and Pierre Woods -- two players who had joined the team as late-season injury replacements. Woods appeared in four games and Balogun in two.
