Vikings sign Robison to 3-year, $14.1M deal

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- The Minnesota Vikings signed defensive end Brian Robison on Thursday to a three-year contract worth $14.1 million.

Robison was one of the main backups on the defensive line and is valued for his versatility. He plays both end and tackle and had two sacks last season.

The Vikings also tendered qualifying offers to six other players, including wide receiver Sidney Rice, safety Husain Abdullah, defensive end Ray Edwards and linebacker Erin Henderson.

The others who received offers were offensive lineman Ryan Cook and safety Eric Frampton.

Robison's deal casts Edwards' future in Minnesota into further doubt. Edwards started at defensive end for the Vikings last year, but his free-agent status could change under a new collective bargaining agreement.

Eligible players not tendered are wide receiver Hank Baskett, defensive lineman Fred Evans, quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, fullback Naufahu Tahi and running back Albert Young.
