49ers like left-footed kickers

The Sports Xchange

--LS Brian Jennings was satisfied with the signing of K David Akers, because he believes left-footed kickers are better at handling the notorious winds of Candlestick Park. Previous kicker Joe Nedney was also a lefty.

--Coach Jim Harbaugh has yet to name his starting offensive line. However, on the newest depth chart (Aug. 29), center Jonathan Goodwin moved ahead of Adam Snyder.

--Harbaugh will continue to evaluate players throughout the season and that includes backup running back where he termed the competition between Hunter and Dixon as "ongoing."

--Harbaugh admitted to being surprised by the diminutive Hunter (5-7, 199) and his ability to block "Surprise is probably a good word, especially in the pass-blocking area," Harbaugh said. "He's been as hard as hen's teeth when it comes to that."

--The stream of information that once flowed out of the 49ers has slowed to a trickle. Harbaugh has shut down practice and limited his team's exposure to the media to the league minimum. Harbaugh was recently asked if he could summarize what newly elected team captains Frank Gore and Patrick Willis said to the team. "Not really. (I don't want to) summarize what they said," Harbaugh related.
