Here we are coming to the end of the first month of the NFL season, and after three weeks here's what I've decided:
All the so-called power teams have issues.
Take a look.
Patriots: Can't rush the passer.
Jets: They can't run it.
Packers: Look where they are in the pass-defense numbers.
Ravens: Pass defense.
Eagles: Run defense; Mike Vick injuries.
Steelers: Offensive line. You saw the Colts game, right?
|Power Rankings Week 3|
|NFL coverage on the go|
Falcons: See Steelers.
Saints: Secondary and pass-rush issues.
Chargers: Pass defense.
Of those teams, only the Packers remain undefeated. The other undefeated teams are the Buffalo Bills and the Detroit Lions.
Are they now power teams?
It's too early to say that, but Lions and the Bills possess explosive offenses and are tough to stop.
The Lions and Bills are now in the top five of the CBS Sports.com Power Rankings. Do I think they are worthy of that? The record says so, even if I don't necessarily think either is top-five timber.
They've earned it.
And some of those so-called power teams have helped by having their flaws exposed. The teams that fix their issues best coming out of October will be sitting pretty. Those that don't could be on the way to flopping, making way for teams like the Lions and Bills to steal the spotlight.
