NFL Roundup: HGH testing not likely for 2012
The NFL and the NFL Players Association met Friday to discuss their differences regarding HGH testing, with Commissioner Roger Goodell telling USA Today that "no significant progress" was made.
"I can tell you, we're sure going to work as hard as we can to get it done," Goodell said when asked if he believes testing will be in place for the 2012 season.
In October, two members of congress announced the NFL would be implementing HGH testing in the near future, but the NFLPA has taken issue with the proposed testing, citing concern over the interpretation of blood tests and privacy.
The NFL had planned to begin collecting blood samples at that point, but the NFLPA refused to cooperate.
"We informed the NFL [Tuesday] that absent a collective agreement on several critical issues, blood collection is not ready to be implemented on Monday," the NFLPA said in a statement Oct. 19. "We have advised the players."
--Goodell "admitted that the NFL will consider having about 10 full-time officials beginning in 2012," according to the New York Daily News. The plan would be to have those officials come to the New York office to study and evaluate calls and review game tapes, and then be mixed in with the game-day crews.
