Phil Emery, introduced as the Chicago Bears new GM on Monday, said he was excited about taking over a position only four men have held before him.
"I'm very pumped up about the opportunity to lead this franchise," Emery said at an afternoon press conference. "This is the premier franchise in the NFL with the premier fan base in a great sports city. I have been here before (as a Bears scout)."
Emery, the director of college scouting for the Kansas City Chiefs before taking his new role, said he likes the energy and enthusiasm coach Lovie Smith brings to the Bears.
"I am excited about working together with Coach Smith," Emery added. "I am excited be around him and his staff as we build toward championships. I know this scouting staff. I have first-hand knowledge. ... This is one fine scouting staff and what we're going to do moving forward is to add to it."
Emery is already shaking things up, as director of player personnel Tim Ruskell departed on Monday, despite the pair's previous relationship. Ruskell named Emery the director of college scouting for the Atlanta Falcons in 2004.
