Report: Steelers deny they have decided to let Ward go
The Pittsburgh Steelers have denied reports that the team has already decided to let Hines Ward leave, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Sunday, citing sources close to the situation.
The NFL Network, citing sources, had reported earlier that the Steelers were unable to find room for Ward as they restructure contracts and work to stay below the salary cap.
But sources told the Post-Gazette that no decision had been made regarding Ward's future with the team.
Ward has one year and $4 million left on his current deal, and he said last month he would agree to accept a cut in pay to remain with the Steelers.
The NFL Network also reported Ward, 35, would consider playing for other teams. But Ward said on his Facebook page, ???I don't normally like to respond to rumors, but as I've said all along, I want to finish my career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. And as I've already told the organization, I am willing to work with them to restructure my contract to make sure this happens."
Ward had just 46 catches for 381 yards this past season.
