Report: Eagles may put franchise tag on Jackson
The status of Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson remains very much in limbo.
Jackson seemed to be headed elsewhere after a difficult 2011 season, and he had said throughout the season he wanted a long-term contract.
However, the Eagles have no intention of just letting Jackson go without getting something in return, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported Sunday, citing sources close to the situation.
His contract is about to expire, so it would seem the team would have to place the franchise tag on Jackson if a deal is not reached by March 5, the deadline for teams to franchise players.
By putting the franchise label on Jackson, the Eagles wouldn't let him become a free agent, giving the Eagles the option of trading Jackson,
The Inquirer, citing other sources, also reported Jackson might be willing to sign the Eagles' one-year tender worth approximately $9.5 million, which is nearly $9 million more than he earned last year, according to the Inquirer.
Jackson had just 58 catches for 961 and four touchdowns in 2011.
