Decision coming on franchise tag for Jackson

--The Eagles have not yet said whether they will put the franchise tag on two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver DeSean Jackson if they can't re-sign him to a new contract by the March 5 deadline for designating franchise players. Teams can put the franchise tag on players starting February 20. General manager Howie Roseman said, "We feel very fortunate to have him on our team. He's a player that we drafted. We think he's got a great future ahead of him. In terms of this specific situation (franchising Jackson), I can't tell you something is going to happen Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday just because of the nature of other things that are going on." While the Eagles are likely to franchise Jackson, the real question is whether it would be to keep him for at least one more year or to trade him.

--Coach Andy Reid acknowledged that he offered Steve Spagnuolo a job on his coaching staff after he was fired by the Rams last month, but wouldn't acknowledge that the job was to run the Eagles' defense. There has been speculation that Reid wanted to bring in Spagnuolo as assistant head coach/defense, a role that would have put him over current defensive coordinator Juan Castillo.

"Listen, we never really got into that," Reid said. "When he was fired, I obviously talked to him and said, `If you'd like to come back here (he was an assistant on Reid's staff for seven years), this door is always open. You and Juan would be spectacular together.' I just thought the two of them together would be tremendous. But it never really got to (offering him a specific job)."

--Asked whether there ever was a time during the season that he thought owner Jeff Lurie would not bring him back, Reid said: "Jeffrey wants to win. As close as Jeffrey and I are, as close as (president) Joe (Banner) and I are, I understand the bottom line is to win football games. That's why I'm here, to win games and to win a Super Bowl. I'm not afraid to stand up and look that in the face. I understood the disappointment (over an 8-8 season). I think he understood my disappointment. I think he sees that going forward, we have an opportunity to do some good things."
