Report: Rams to trade No. 2 pick in draft

The St. Louis Rams have decided they will trade away the No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, ESPN.com reported Monday.

There has been a lot of interest in Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, and after his impressive showing in the NFL Scouting Combine, it's been speculated that he might be the second pick in the draft after Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck.

The Rams seem to be committed to their current quarterback, Sam Bradford, the No. 1 pick in the 2010 draft, so they apparently are willing to trade away their early pick.

They have had discussions with the Cleveland Browns (who have the No. 4 overall pick), Washington Redskins (No. 6) and Miami Dolphins (No. 8), according to ESPN.com.

The Rams want a deal like the one worked out between the San Diego Chargers and New York Giants in 2004.

The Chargers took Eli Manning with the first pick, and traded him to the Giants for two first-round selections, a third-round pick and a fifth-round pick. The Chargers got quarterback Philip Rivers and linebacker Shawne Merriman with those draft picks.

Griffin did not throw at the Combine, but he was clocked in 4.41 seconds in the 40-yard dash, and his NFL stock has been rising.

The Indianapolis Colts hold the No. 1 overall draft pick and have said they will use it to take a quarterback. It has been assumed the Colts would choose Luck rather than Griffin, but the Colts have not confirmed that.
