The Raiders and franchise player safety Tyvon Branch agreed to a four-year deal expected to be signed no later than Sunday.
The deal creates salary-cap space for the Raiders, who would've paid Branch $6.2 million on his one-year franchise tender for 2012.
Branch has started 48 straight games for the Raiders, and he might have been an attractive player if he had made it to the free-agent market.
Branch, 25, had 78 tackles, 29 assists and an interception in 2011, which was his fourthseason in the NFL.
