Vikings rookie Childs out for season

CBSSports.com wire reports

Minnesota Vikings rookie wide receiver Greg Childs is lost for the season after tearing both patella tendons in his knees after an awkward fall during practice Saturday night.

Childs, a fourth round pick out of Arkansas, had a calf strain after the draft and was limited during organized team activities and minicamp. He also tore his right patella tendon in his right knee in 2010.

If the Vikings plan to keep five receivers on their 53-man roster, Jerome Simpson, Percy Harvin and rookie Jarius Wright are thought to be locks to make the team, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. However, Simpson will miss the first three games of the season because he was suspended due to his felony drug conviction.

The final two spots are up for grabs between Michael Jenkins, Devin Aromashou, Stephen Burton, Emmanuel Arceneaux, Kerry Taylor and Bryan Walters.
