NFL Power Rankings: Broncos, 49ers look super -- but it's only one week

Week 1 of the NFL season brings out the best in fans. Either your team sucks or it is going to the Super Bowl. There is no middle ground.

That's what makes this league and this game so fun. The passion is crazy, but so is the venom.

If your team lost, your week stinks. Your season is over. Already talking about next year.

If your team won, you're thinking about spending money on that new coat for the cold-weather Super Bowl in New Jersey and figuring out how you can get tickets to Letterman.

That's just the way you are, even if one week of play doesn't let us figure anything out. Don't even act like it does.

So as I put together this second batch of Power Rankings, I did so with something I preach on regular basis in the back of my mind.

It is just one game.

But it's hard not to look at the Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers and think they aren't the best in the NFL right now, which is why they are atop the rankings.

Both were impressive in their season-opening victories over good teams, with Denver having more of an easy time with Baltimore than Green Bay did with San Francisco.

A week from now, though, that could all change. The Broncos go to New York to play the Giants, while the 49ers play at Seattle. It wouldn't be a shock to see both teams lose.

If we had overreaction Monday, coming up this week is "Get-even weekend." Just remember I told you it's coming.
