Campo to interview for Seattle D-coordinator post

Dave Campo might not be one of the Jones 'Boys anymore, but that doesn't mean he isn't finding love elsewhere.

SportsLine.com has learned that the Seattle Seahawks have contacted the recently fired head coach of the Cowboys to interview him for their now-vacant defensive coordinator job.

Campo, fired Monday when Jerry Jones made a decision to hire Bill Parcells, remains a highly revered defensive mind despite failing to lead the Cowboys to the playoffs as the head man.

Sources say Campo and Seattle head coach Mike Holmgren are scheduled to meet Tuesday. Sources close to Campo also said Holmgren made first contact.

Before becoming the team's head coach, Campo spent 11 seasons as an assistant with the Cowboys and coached in three Super Bowls, four NFC Championship Games, and won six division titles. Only four head coaches have been a part of three or more Super Bowl titles in their coaching careers, one being Holmgren.

Campo led the Dallas defense as its coordinator from 1995-99. Before that, Campo served as the Cowboys secondary coach (1991-94) and was also a defensive assistant (1989-1990).

Holmgren this week relinquished his general manager duties and fired several of his defensive assistants in order to remain with the team.

On Friday, VP of personnel Ted Thompson will interview for the now-vacant GM job. Thompson is a well-respected personnel man and former player who many inside the league believe has long been ready for a general manager title.

It is unclear who else the team will interview for that position, but former Saints GM Randy Mueller and Bills personnel man Tom Modrak are rumored to be candidates.
