Mock draft: Throw out the other ones, this one counts

By | SportsLine.com Senior Writer

The great thing about doing mock drafts is the number we all do. That way, when a player goes to a team, making us right in one of the four we did, we all sit there and make that snide face.

"Yep, I had that one right," we say.

One problem. We had it right in one of four of our mocks. So is .250 really any good?

Didn't think so.

But that's why we discount the first three mock drafts that I've done, including one done earlier this week, and take this one as the one to grade. It's the mock based on late information, including using the supposed trade between the Giants and Chargers, giving San Diego the top spot.

We'll also have San Diego drop down to the seventh spot after that in a trade with Cleveland, who wants Iowa tackle Robert Gallery.

So this is the official Pete Prisco Mock Draft for all those graders out there who do such a thing.

Of course when it blows up in my face by dusk Saturday, I'll start claiming my first, second and third drafts were the right ones.

"Yep, I had that one right."

1. New York Giants (From San Diego) -- Eli Manning, QB, Mississippi. They get their man in Eli Manning by trading a second-round pick this year and maybe one next year. Daddy Dearest Archie gets his wish.

2. Oakland Raiders -- Roy Williams, WR, Texas. They consider Robert Gallery or even trading back, but in the end they take Williams for his deep speed.

3. Arizona Cardinals -- Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Pittsburgh. Take this one to the bank. He will be playing for his dad, Dennis Green. OK, kidding about the dad stuff. Uncle Denny?

4. Cleveland Browns (From New York through San Diego) -- Robert Gallery, T, Iowa. The Browns make a move up to get the best offensive lineman -- by far -- in this draft.

5. Washington Redskins -- Kellen Winslow Jr., TE, Miami. There is a chance they can trade back with New England, but we keep Winslow in this spot. He's the best player in this draft.

6. Detroit Lions -- Sean Taylor, S, Miami. He is big, rangy and can run. Think Kenny Easley. He's that good.

7. San Diego (From Cleveland) -- Philip Rivers, QB, North Carolina State. They get the guy they wanted all along and add draft picks. Maybe this franchise does know what it's doing.

8. Atlanta Falcons --DeAngelo Hall, CB, Virginia Tech. They need a quality corner to go with Jason Webster, and Hall is that guy. He is also an electrifying return man.

9. Jacksonville Jaguars -- Kenechi Udeze, DE, USC. They get stuck at No. 9 in a draft where they really like eight players. So they take the defensive end. A move down is possible.

10. Houston Texans -- Will Smith, DE, Ohio State. They will play him as an outside linebacker in their 3-4. Vince Wilfork is a possibility.

11. Pittsburgh Steelers -- Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Miami of Ohio. They wanted Philip Rivers, but settle for the next best thing. Could also consider Arkansas tackle Shawn Andrews.

12. New York Jets -- Dunta Robinson, CB, South Carolina. This is a team going to more man coverage, so they need Robinson and his speed.

13. Buffalo Bills -- Michael Clayton, WR, LSU. They want one of the defensive ends, but with the top two gone they go with a receiver to help the passing game.

14. Chicago Bears -- Vince Wilfork, DT, Miami. They get a wide-body power player in the middle of their line. Lovie Smith gets his Warren Sapp.

15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- Steven Jackson, RB, Oregon State. They can't really be feeling too good having a 32-year-old starting running back. Might also go receiver here.

16. San Francisco 49ers -- Reggie Williams, WR, Washington. The team with the Pac-10 coach and the Pac-10 GM takes the Pac-10 receiver.

17. Denver Broncos -- Tommie Harris, DT, Oklahoma. They can't believe he's still on the board, so they pass on the running back to get this player for value.

18. New Orleans Saints -- D.J. Williams, LB, Miami. They wanted either Robinson or Hall, but settle on a productive speedy linebacker.

19. Minnesota Vikings -- Jonathan Vilma, LB, Miami. He's just what they need in the middle of their defense.

20, Miami Dolphins -- Shawn Andrews, T, Arkansas. They might move back and add some picks, but for the sake of this one they stay here and take a much-needed tackle.

21. New England Patriots -- Marcus Tubbs, DT, Texas. They need to get a replacement for Ted Washington, so they go with a big wide-body from Texas.

22. Dallas Cowboys -- Kevin Jones, RB, Virginia Tech. They can't believe their luck that he is still here. He is going to be a Cowboys star. Emmitt who?

23. Seattle Seahawks -- Lee Evans, WR, Wisconsin. They wanted Tubbs, but since he's off the board they land the speedy Evans.

24. Cincinnati Bengals -- Chris Gamble, CB, Ohio State. This will prove to be the steal of the draft. He's a better player than his computer numbers would lead one to believe.

25. Green Bay Packers -- J.P. Losman, QB, Tulane. They love this big strong-armed kid who has a swagger.

26. St. Louis Rams -- Rashaun Woods, WR, Oklahoma State. Isaac Bruce is not a kid anymore and Woods is perfect for their offense.

27. Tennessee Titans -- Igor Olshansky, DT, Oregon. He's a powerful player who can come in and replace Robaire Smith.

28. Philadelphia Eagles -- Ahmad Carroll, CB, Arkansas. They need to replace Bobby Taylor and Troy Vincent and this kid is rising up the boards.

29. Indianapolis Colts -- Karlos Dansby, LB, Auburn. They like their young corners, but they need a replacement for Marcus Washington.

30. Kansas City Chiefs -- Darnell Dockett, DT, Florida State. This is a need pick and he will come in and be an immediate contributor.

31. Carolina Panthers -- Ben Troupe, TE, Florida. They are thrilled they get a tight end to do damage in the middle of the field.

32. New England Patriots -- Vernon Carey, T-G, Miami. They got a defensive lineman with their first pick, now they get the offensive lineman.
