Five things you should know about the Jets
Judge: Protecting Pennington paramount
1. Running back Curtis Martin said this year's offense is so explosive he could wind up with 1,500 yards and backup Lamont Jordan with 1,000. It sounds implausible until you listen to coach Herman Edwards. "We have a chance," he said. "We have a chance."

3. You watch wide receiver Justin McCareins and wonder why Tennessee gave up on the guy. McCareins is a solid No. 2 receiver, and he gives the Jets a second punt returner, which is huge if you're looking to take Santana Moss out of the line of fire.
4. The Jets had no team speed on defense a year ago, but you should see them now. The biggest difference is at linebacker where the club will start at least two new starters and could, if Vilma supplants Cowart, start three. "We should be a lot better," Edwards said.
5. Guard Pete Kendall was just what the Jets needed. He fills a void at left guard and gives the team depth at the position with Brent Smith as a backup. The Jets still are unsure how much they will get from right guard Brandon Moore.
