Jets sign RB/KR Burnell, release P Simnjanovski

NEW YORK -- The New York Jets signed running back/kick returner Keith Burnell and released punter Brian Simnjanovski on Sunday.

Burnell was signed to New York's practice squad last September after a college career at Virginia Tech and Delaware. In 34 college games, Burnell ran for 1,718 yards and 18 touchdowns.

He was waived by Green Bay last year before signing with the Jets.

Simnjanovski punted once for 13 yards in a 23-13 exhibition loss at New Orleans on Friday night.
