Preseason roundup: Redskins control game vs. Dolphins

MIAMI -- Mark Brunell directed two touchdown drives, and the Washington Redskins controlled the ball for 41 minutes to beat the Miami Dolphins 17-0 Saturday night.

Miami (1-1) made five first downs -- none in the second half -- and totaled just 98 yards. By the second quarter, the offense was drawing boos from the crowd of perhaps 30,000.

Brunell, acquired in an offseason trade to challenge for the starting quarterback job, played four series and led TD drives of 63 and 43 yards to help the Redskins (2-1) take a 14-0 halftime lead. Full story

Titans 16, Bills 15

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Willis McGahee found out what it's like to be the starting running back for the Buffalo Bills.

McGahee scored in the second quarter after taking over for injured starter Travis Henry, but the Tennessee Titans used a 22-yard field goal by Joe Nedney as time expired to beat the Bills.

McGahee finished with 11 carries for 28 yards, scoring on a 3-yard run on his second series. That followed an impressive preseason debut, in which McGahee had 13 carries for 58 yards and scored the go-ahead touchdown in Buffalo's 16-6 win over Denver last weekend.

Broncos 19, Seahawks 3

SEATTLE -- Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and his replacement, Seneca Wallace, couldn't move the Seattle Seahawks.

The Denver Broncos got their second touchdown of the exhibition season, and Jason Elam kicked four field goals in a victory over the Seahawks.

The Broncos (1-2) finally got into the end zone with 10:06 left on a 7-yard run by Mike Anderson.

Jets 31, Colts 7

INDIANAPOLIS -- The New York Jets found a winning combination -- a near-perfect game from Chad Pennington and an opportunistic defense.

Pennington completed his first 10 passes and threw for 169 yards and a touchdown before leaving in the second quarter, and the New York defense produced three first-half turnovers to lead the Jets past the Indianapolis Colts. It was the first preseason meeting between the longtime former AFC East rivals.

Both teams expected to see improved defenses. Instead, they watched one half that looked like a carbon copy of last year's regular-season meeting.
