Rookie to watch: Randy Starks, DT, Maryland. This third-round pick has the team excited about the future. Too bad that future may be now.

Overview: Have the Titans lost too much? Eventually attrition has to take a toll. Will that be the case this year? Or can McNair put this team on his back again and carry it to the playoffs? This is still a quality team, but some young players have to come up big -- really big -- for this to be a division winner.

Houston Texans

Significant additions: Robaire Smith, DT; John Wade, T; Jason Babin, LB; Dunta Robinson, CB.

Significant subtractions: Steve Foley, LB; Steve Martin, DT.

Biggest offseason move: They landed two starters in Babin and Robinson in the first round of the draft. Both will play a huge role in whether the defense improves.

Will go to the playoffs if ... the offense continues to improve and gets to be a top 10 unit.

Won't go to the playoffs if ... neither the offense or the defense improves their rankings into the middle teens.

Rookie to watch: Dunta Robinson, CB, South Carolina. He is smooth and polished, which is why he is an opening-game starter. He will be a Pro Bowl corner.

Overview: The Texans are building something good in Houston. They still might be a year away, but this team will be better in 2004. The one problem is the toughness of the division, which might make it so their improvement isn't really reflected. Watch out in 2005.
