Week 12 Review: It's time Reid starts getting credit

Week 12: Review | Judgements

The Philadelphia Eagles clinched the NFC East on Sunday, even though there are five weeks to go.

The 10-1 Eagles have been dominant, except for that ambush at Pittsburgh earlier this month. They are clearly the power team in the NFC, with their 129-point differential showing just how good they've been.

So who's getting the credit?

Donovan McNabb. Terrell Owens. Jim Johnson's blitzing defense. Brad Childress' innovative offense.

What about coach Andy Reid?

Does the guy ever get his due?

The feeling here is that Reid is the most underrated coach in the league. Ask anybody to list the NFL's best five coaches, and you can bet Reid would not be on most of those lists.

That's a mistake. He's had his team in the NFC Championship Game three consecutive years, and there's nothing to think he won't get there -- and maybe finally past it -- this season. Reid has built a powerhouse, with a Super Bowl the only thing missing.

In his six seasons, Reid is 66-34, and his team's victory over the Giants ties him with Greasy Neale for most victories by an Eagles coach. The only difference is that Neale won two titles, which is the only thing holding Reid back from getting the respect he deserves.

He can take over the top spot by beating the Packers next Sunday at Lincoln Field. If the Eagles win, it would give them 11 victories for the fifth consecutive year.

That's dynasty stuff, especially in the cap era.
