Bears keep long snapper Mannelly with six-year deal

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Chicago Bears agreed to terms Monday with long snapper Patrick Mannelly for a six-year contract.

Mannelly, who would have been an unrestricted free agent following next season, will now be under contract through 2010.

The seven-year veteran played in all 16 games for the Bears during the 2004 season, snapping on all punts, extra points and fields goals. He had 11 tackles.

The 1998 sixth-round draft pick helped Chicago set an NFL record for most consecutive unblocked punts at 920 -- a record set from 1990 to 2003.

The 6-foot-5, 265-pound Duke graduate has handled long-snapping duties on 1,002 of the Bears last 1,022 punts, field goals or extra points. At the same time, he had 57 tackles.
