CORAOPOLIS, Pa. (AP) A district judge has withdrawn an arrest warrant for former Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Plaxico Burress, after officials determined he never owed $90,000 in back local wage taxes.
The arrest warrant was rescinded Friday, a day after it was issued, Burress' tax attorney Chuck Potter told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
District Judge Mary Murray of Moon Township, where Burress lived part-time while he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2000-2003, issued an arrest warrant for Burress after he failed to appear at a delinquent tax claim hearing last week.
Potter said Burress received the hearing notice late because he signed with the Giants in March and has since moved.
Potter said Burress was a legal resident of Florida while he played with the Steelers, despite having a residence in Moon Township, as a result he did not owe the wage tax to Moon Township and the school district there.
The arrest warrant indicated Burress owed taxes for the years 1998 through 2002, even though he was not drafted out of Michigan State until 2000 and never lived in Pennsylvania.
Officials at Keystone Municipal Collections, which sought the warrant, have not explained why they believed Burress owed the taxes.
