MANKATO, Minn. -- Minnesota Vikings strong safety Tank Williams was carted off the field on Saturday after injuring his left knee during a training camp practice.
Williams injured the knee while backpedaling during a seven-on-seven passing drill. He did not make contact with another player, but as soon as he planted his left leg, he let out a scream and crumpled to the ground.
A team spokesman said Williams was taken for evaluation and no more information would be available until Sunday.
"I was on the field with him," said fellow safety Willie Offord, who had surgery nine months ago to repair torn ligaments in his knee. "It didn't look good."
Williams first injured the knee in 2004 while playing with the Tennessee Titans. After starting the first nine games of the year, he tore the ACL in his left knee against Chicago and missed the rest of the season. Full story
Alexander watches as Seahawks get back to business
CHENEY, Wash. -- The defending NFC champions made huge progress during their first and only full-scale training camp scrimmage.
They finished it.
One day after coach Mike Holmgren angrily kicked his Seahawks off the practice field 30 minutes before drills were to end, Seattle got through its 90-minute full-contact scrimmage.
"I think when guys went back to their rooms (Friday night), everyone thought long and hard and were not happy with what happened," Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Hasselbeck said after completing five of 12 passes for 63 yards and a two touchdowns against the second-team defense.
"He sent us the message that if we want to be the best, that was not the way to get it done. And that message was received loud and clear."
