George finally gets call, albeit not from team he pursued
Yet George has already impressed Shell this week.
"He's a very accurate guy, and when it comes out it's like a missile," Shell said of George's passes.
Shell, back to coach the Raiders after owner Al Davis fired him following the 1994 season, said he hasn't ruled out keeping four quarterbacks on the 53-man roster to be finalized Saturday. That would include George.
"It's always possible, yes," Shell said.
The Seahawks' quarterbacks are set -- for Thursday and beyond. Hasselbeck may play two series at most. Backup Seneca Wallace and second-year man David Greene will play the rest.
Holmgren might play the little-used Greene with the second-team offense in the second quarter. Greene won the No. 3 job this week over NFL Europe MVP Gibran Hamdan because of what Holmgren said was Greene's larger capacity to grow.
As for the rest of the Seahawks' starters, Holmgren said he expects them to play "about a quarter." League MVP Shaun Alexander may get a couple of carries, at most.
Seattle will still be without tight end Jerramy Stevens, receiver Darrell Jackson and defensive tackle Marcus Tubbs. All had offseason surgeries and haven't played since the Super Bowl. Stevens had a second operation on his left knee this month.
Jackson (knee) and Tubbs (Achilles' tendon) haven't practiced since before the Super Bowl, but are expected to next week before they likely start the Sept. 10 season opener at Detroit.
The Seahawks will also be without Pro Bowl center Robbie Tobeck. He had surgery two weeks ago to remove bone chips in his left elbow. But Tobeck returned to practice this week and is expected to play in the opener.
The Raiders, 4-0 in exhibitions this month, have never finished an unbeaten preseason in their 46 years. They open the season Sept. 11 against San Diego.
