Raiders activate Echemandu for depth at running back

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders activated running back Adimchinobe Echemandu from the practice squad on Saturday as insurance if LaMont Jordan or Justin Fargas can't play this week because of injuries.

Jordan has been slowed during the week with a sore back, while Fargas dislocated his left shoulder last week against Denver. The two have combined for 478 of the Raiders' 559 rushing yards this season.

Both players missed practice Wednesday before returning later in the week. Coach Art Shell expected Jordan and Fargas to be able to play Sunday against Arizona, but wanted protection in case one or both of them couldn't go.

Echemandu spent last season with Minnesota, playing the final two games after opening the season on the practice squad. Echemandu was released by the Vikings in training camp and added to the Raiders practice squad.

Echemandu, who ran for 1,434 yards in his college career at California, played four games as a rookie in 2004 for the Cleveland Browns.
