So maybe he's not the best tight end in the game. Or the second best.
But Baltimore's Todd Heap is one of the
premier players at his position and one of the most likeable guys in
this business.
He usually leads the Ravens in catches, and he
usually leads the club in postgame interviews, too. Spend time with him,
and you'll discover why. He's a class individual willing to help those
who seek it. And we did, stopping Todd for 60 seconds of his time.
Don't expect Todd Heap to be late for dinner.

Here's what he had to say:
Q: What's the most underrated part of your position?
Heap: Having to know both the passing scheme and the running
scheme.
Q: If you had one tight end, from any era, to draft for your
football team whom would it be?
Heap: Shannon Sharpe. I was able to sit and watch and learn from
him and see all the things he brings to the table.
Q: Tony Gonzalez or Antonio Gates?
Heap: Wow. I like them both. I can't choose.
Q: As part of a family with six kids, what's the first thing you
learned?
Heap: How to get to the dinner table first.
Q: When or where were you happiest in life?
Heap: Getting married and the birth of our kids.
Q: You grew up in Arizona. So what's the biggest adjustment to
the East?
Heap: The trees. I feel claustrophobic. You can't see the sky.
Q: Where's your favorite place to spend time?
Heap: The beach.
Q: Any in particular?
Heap: Del Mar (Calif.)
Q: If you had one coach to play for other than Brian Billick, who
would it be?
Heap: That's tough, but I'd probably say Lovie Smith because he
seems to have a calm demeanor, yet he expects a lot from his guys and he
gets results.
Q: You have spent time overseas with U.S. troops. What did you
learn there?
Heap: How fortunate we are to have people like that do what they
do to protect our way of life.
