Jacobs plans to appeal fine for pregnant TD celebration

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New York Giants halfback Brandon Jacobs is unhappy with the NFL and plans to let the league know.

Jacobs revealed Friday that the league fined him between $5,000 and $10,000 for shoving a football underneath his jersey to celebrate a touchdown run against the Chicago Bears on Sunday night.

Jacobs, who said he will appeal, insisted he was not celebrating. He said that when he puts the ball underneath his jersey to create a bulging stomach and then rubs it, he is acknowledging his wife, Kimberly, who is pregnant.

What confuses Jacobs is he did the same thing after scoring a touchdown against Tampa Bay on Oct. 29. The league and the officials did nothing then.

This time, he was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct and later found a letter from the NFL waiting on a stool in front of his locker informing him of the fine.

"I think it's unnecessary for them to do that and not give me a warning," Jacobs said.

He has been Tiki Barber's backup this season. The second-year back has 60 carries for 286 yards and six touchdowns, most in goal-line situations.

The Giants (6-3), coming off a loss to the Bears, play the Jaguars (5-4) on Monday night in Jacksonville. Jacobs said he expects Barber, who has a sore right wrist, to play.

"My approach doesn't change," Jacobs said. "Tiki is still the guy. He's practicing."

Receiver David Tyree, who started last week for Amani Toomer, was added to the Giants injury report on Friday with a groin injury.

Strongside linebacker Carlos Emmons has practiced all week and appears to be ready to return to the lineup after missing last week with a groin injury.

Weakside linebacker Brandon Short (quad), cornerback Sam Madison (hamstring) and defensive end Osi Umenyiora (hip flexor) are doubtful.
