Tell me I'm not the only one who wants more

INDIANAPOLIS -- More, please.

More Peyton Manning and more Tom Brady. More Asante Samuel and more Cato June.

More Tony Dungy and -- what the hell -- more Bill Belichick.

Sixty minutes wasn't enough. Not for me. The Indianapolis Colts and their fans are the only people with any right to be happy that the AFC Championship Game ended when it did Sunday, with the Colts leading the Patriots 38-34. Apparently that's the final score, 38-34.

Stupid details. That game was too good, too bad, too everything to end when it did. Or to end at all. Touchdowns were scored by an offensive guard, a center, a cornerback and a defensive tackle. And the touchdown by the defensive tackle was a planned play.

Balls were dropped by receivers and tight ends and running backs. Unimaginably bad passes were thrown by two of the best quarterbacks in NFL history, Manning and Brady, both of whom are in their prime. Incredible passes were thrown by Manning and Brady.

The emotions from the game were still raw afterward, with New England running back Corey Dillon walking through the locker room sneering at any media member unlucky enough to be in the way. It seemed like Dillon was looking for a fight. He might even have been looking for a fight with me. Walking on a collision course, we played chicken until I veered off because he's big and ornery and has a rap sheet that includes assault. Plus he was one dropped towel away from naked. After the crisis was avoided, he looked over his shoulder and sneered one last time at me before going to his empty locker where all his friends were waiting.

Me, I was gawking at Brady. He was suffering in silence at his locker, packing up his season, one item at a time. Brady threw a pair of cleats into his bag. He shoved a pair of turf shoes. In went his helmet. Some aspirin. Tape. The media noticed him and started to approach, causing Brady to stop packing and head for the trainer's room, which he entered by disgustedly throwing aside the privacy curtain.

Brady looked emotionally destroyed, but that was nothing. How about being us? This game was a football fan's dream, and it not only ended too soon, but was played too soon. Two weeks too soon, to be exact. This game should have been the Super Bowl, not whatever happens on Feb. 4 in Miami, because Feb. 4 in Miami will include Rex Grossman. Not to say the Bears are a lock to lose. They're not. But Grossman is a lock to gum up the game's aesthetics.

The AFC title game was beautiful, and some day after the pain is gone even the Patriots will see that. It was brilliant artwork, open to any interpretation you want to give it.

The quarterbacks were great, combining for 581 yards and two touchdowns. They were terrible, throwing one bad interception each -- Manning giving the Patriots a touchdown on Samuel's 39-yard return, Brady ending the Patriots' season with a pick in the final seconds.

The touchdowns were horrific, three of them being scored by almost 900 pounds of human girth. Patriots guard Logan Mankins recovered Laurence Maroney's fumble in the end zone. Colts defensive tackle Dan Klecko lined up on offense, as he is wont to do, and barreled into the flat and made a nice catch and pivot into the end zone for a 1-yard score. Colts center Jeff Saturday found Dominic Rhodes' fumble in the end zone for a score.

That's three pretty cool touchdowns.
