Will Victor Cruz reach 1,500 receiving yards in 2012?

Victor Cruz: 1,500 yards receiving. Over or under?

Three players got to 1,500 yards last season and one was Cruz. He won't get there again. There are two reasons why. The Giants were 32nd in rushing last season, and that won't happen again. That means more running and less passing. The other reason is Cruz is a known threat now. The Patriots took him away in the Super Bowl, making him a priority. More teams will try to do that. He gets to 1,200, and that's it.

Producing 1,500 yards doesn't happen to most receivers in their careers. Now we're asking if a walk-on can do it a second consecutive season after emerging out of nowhere? Please. I think you know my answer.

No freaking way. Too much off-season dancing and banquet circuit attending. Cruz could have a major drop-off. Some of the reason will also be because the Giants are going to run the ball a great deal more this coming season.

I don't see any reason why he won't continue to get better. He's not a one-year wonder. Eli Manning has even more trust in him now and Hakeeem Nicks was banged up in camp. He is an emerging force and there are plenty of balls to go around in this offense.

Cruz broke the 1,500 yard mark last season and should even be a better receiver this year. But unlike last season, defenses will double Cruz at times and keep him under wraps. Eli will not force balls into Cruz when he's double covered, so that will lower Cruz's yardage total.

Don't think the Giants can get back to being a rushing team and Cruz is going to see more targets this year but won't be on an island because Hakeem Nicks got back. Last year was no fluke.

Last year, Cruz came out of nowhere to become the Giants No. 1 receiver with an 82-catch, 1,537-yard, nine-touchdown salsa bonanza. He'll be even better this year with another year in the Giants system and another year catching passes from Eli Manning, who continues to get better himself.

Eli Manning has quietly emerged as one of the league's top passers and Cruz is his favorite target. There's no reason to think that either will change in 2012.
