Will Chris Johnson rush for 1,400 yards in 2012?

Johnson, despite his preseason struggles, looked to be back to his old form when I saw him this summer. He is gliding again, which is a good thing. Johnson is also in the best shape of his NFL career. The problems last year were that Johnson didnít get much push from the inside of the line. They are better there after adding Steve Hutchinson, so Johnson will have more room to run.

The guy rushed for 1,400 yards once in his career, and that's when he ran for 2,006 yards in 2009 -- when Vince Young was the quarterback. The Titans can throw with Jake Locker and will ... reducing Johnson's touches.

The problem is, Jake Locker will start the season, and while Locker will eventually be a good quarterback, teams know the true threat on that offense is Johnson. He will consistently see seven- and eight-man fronts. He's seen these before but Johnson will see them more than ever since a first-year starter will be under center.

Last year was a wash out for him post-lockout, but this is a normal offseason, he is healthy and motivated and the Titans should have decent balance on offense. The offensive line is stout enough. He is still explosive. I don't think 1,500 is out of the question.

Johnson had a "bad" season in 2011 and still had 1,047 yards rushing. In the five games the Titans gave him 20-plus carries, he delivered 626 yards in 120 carries at 4.2 per carry. This season, he gets 10 games at 20-plus carries and makes it over the 1,400 yard mark.

Great number here. If Johnson bounces back to his three-year average and goes for 4.7 yards per carry, 300 carries will put CJ2K at 1,410 yards on the season. I like him to get a little bit under 300 carries for the regular season and don't trust him to go higher than 4.7, so just under here.

Listen, even though Johnson broke the 1,000-yard mark last season, he was terrible. He looked tentative. He looked like he had no burst. At one point, he looked like he might lose his starting job. But remember that he held out for most of training camp, and he had to endure the lockout. He was far behind when he reported to the team. That won't be a problem this season. He'll be the CJ1,500K of old.

Johnson reported to camp out of shape a year ago and he's looked much better this August, but we're still not convinced he's close to the player he was in 2010.
