Will Tim Tebow make 75 pass attempts in 2012?

Tim Tebow: 75 pass attempts. Over or under?

I just don't think he will get many snaps at quarterback. If he does, the Jets are in big trouble. He might throw some passes out of that gimmicky wildcat formation, but I can't imagine he gets to 75. It's not creative when he comes into games. It's a distraction. He should concentrate on excelling at being a punt protector. That's what he does best.

Call me na´ve, but I believe the Jets pick their spots with Tebow. Watch him practice, and you understand why he's no threat to Mark Sanchez. Nevertheless, he's an asset who can ... and will ... show up elsewhere.

Rex Ryan has all but promised the plan now isn't to dump Mark Sanchez for Tebow at the first sign of Sanchez struggling. Sure, Rex. Sure. Tebow will be the starter by Week 5 but he still won't make 75 passes. Maybe 75 special teams tackles. But not 75 passes.

I suspect the Jets are searching for answers sooner rather than later and they might have to deviate from Tony Sparano's offensive plans at some point and play Tebow Ball instead. Regardless, he will get 5-15 plays a game early on depending on down and situation and I won't be surprised if he ends up getting a start or two.

Tebow shouldn't throw 75 passes in a season because of his accuracy issues, but he already has more pass attempts than Sanchez in three preseason games. He only needs five attempts a game to clear 75 in the regular season. The wildcat doesn't work if the guy who takes the snap isn't a threat to pass.

Five pass attempts a game isn't asking that much especially when he ends up getting the majority of playing time in a few games later in the year.

If Rex Ryan and Tony Sparano truly plan on playing Tebow 15-20 snaps a game, there's no question he'll throw more than 75 passes. I have a feeling he won't play that much as long as Mark Sanchez is the starter. But ... there's a decent chance Sanchez won't be the starter all the way through the season. And if not, it'll be Tebow's job once again to pull off the weekly miracle.

If Tebow throws more than five or six passes -- all season -- the Jets will be in trouble. For Sanchez to get better, he has to play. It's that simple.
