2012 NFL All-Division Teams
| 1 | AFC East |
|
Easiest pick on any All-AFC East team: Uh, Tom Brady.
Toughest pick: Right tackle. Are any of them any good?
The AFC East is a division that features one of the NFL's best teams in the New England Patriots, which is why I was surprised that there are only eight Patriots on my All-Division team, led by Brady. The Jets also have eight, which shows you the value of the quarterback position.
In putting together the defense, I used a 4-3 front because three of the four teams are basically now 4-3 teams. So some players are slotted into the 4-3 who really play a 3-4 scheme, such as Sione Pouha of the Jets. He plays nose, but for this team he's listed as a defensive tackle.
Offense
| TE | LT | LG | C | RG | RT |
| R. Gronkowski | J. Long | A. Levitre | N Mangold | B. Moore | S. Vollmer |
| WR | QB | WR | |||
| W. Welker | T. Brady | S. Johnson | |||
| RB | FB | ||||
| R. Bush | C. Clay | ||||
QB -- Tom Brady, Patriots: He is getting older, but his skills are still at a high level. This was an easy choice.
RB -- Reggie Bush, Dolphins: He gets the spot here after having an impressive 2011 season for the Dolphins. He can run it and catch it.
FB -- Charles Clay, Dolphins: He isn't a pure fullback, but he can do so many things for the Dolphins.
WR -- Wes Welker, Patriots: All he does is catch passes. He led the league in receptions and he is a threat in the middle of the field.
WR -- Steve Johnson, Bills: In a division that lacks big-time receivers, I go with Johnson over Santonio Holmes.
TE -- Rob Gronkowski, Patriots: He emerged as a star at the position in 2011. He is a tough cover for a linebacker or a safety.
LT -- Jake Long, Dolphins: He remains one of the league's best left tackles, even if his play slipped some last season.
LG -- Andy Levitre, Bills: I give Levitre, one of the underrated players, the nod over Logan Mankins, who didn't play great last season and is coming off ACL surgery.
C -- Nick Mangold, Jets: He is the rock in the middle of the Jets line. Did you see how they played without him?
RG -- Brandon Moore, Jets: He is a steady right guard playing next to a bad right tackle.
RT -- Sebastian Vollmer, Patriots: He has some injury concerns, but this is a bad position in the division, so he gets the nod.
Defense
| LE | DT | DT | RE |
| M. Williams | V. Wilfork | S. Pouha | C. Wake |
| OLB | MLB/ILB | OLB | |
| C. Pace | D. Harris | J. Mayo | |
| CB | FS | SS | CB |
| D. Revis | J. Byrd | G. Wilson | A. Cromartie |
LE -- Mario Williams, Bills: He comes over from Houston to give the Bills a dominant edge rush.
DT -- Vince Wilfork, Patriots: He is a powerful force in the middle of the Patriots defense. If his weight is in check, he's one of the best.
DT -- Sione Pouha, Jets: You might not know him but he is a power player against the run.
RE -- Cameron Wake, Dolphins: He moves to outside end in a 4-3, which will take some adjusting. But he has played with his hand down some.
OLB -- Calvin Pace, Jets: He is a 3-4 rush guy who is a solid player. He gets the nod here in a weak spot for the division.
MLB/ILB -- David Harris, Jets: He is an underrated player who is now finally getting some acclaim. He's a tackling machine.
OLB -- Jerod Mayo, Patriots: He has been a steady force since his rookie season. He knows how to find the football.
CB -- Darrelle Revis, Jets: Is there a better corner in the game? Nope. He can shut down the top receivers.
CB -- Antonio Cromartie, Jets: He has the freakish athletic ability that allows him to excel in man coverage. He does get too many penalties.
Nickel -- Terence McGee, Bills: It looks like he will be the guy in Buffalo, and if he is, he's a nice third corner.
SS -- George Wilson, Bills: He has range and he will tackle. That's a nice combination.
FS -- Jairus Byrd, Bills: After a down year in 2010, he bounced back to play at a high level in 2011.
Special Teams
| KR | K | P |
| J. McKnight | S. Gostkowski | Z. Mesko |
K -- Stephen Gostkowski, Patriots: Adam Vinatieri who? He has replaced him and done a heck of a job.
P -- Zoltan Mesko, Patriots: He has a huge leg, even for a team that doesn't punt that much.
KR -- Joe McKnight, Jets: He is a top kickoff return man who led the AFC in that category.
Honorable mention: LG Logan Mankins, Patriots; C Mike Pouncey, Dolphins; LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Jets; MLB Kelvin Sheppard, Bills; DT Muhammad Wilkerson, Jets; RBs C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson, Bills.
