06/02/17WRDeante' GrayHamstringQUESTIONABLEGray is expected to be out until training camp with a Grade 2 partially torn hamstring, Aaron Wilson of The Houston Chronicle reports.

Gray signed with the Texans after going undrafted in April. The injury is a setback that could cause him to fall behind in his competition with Chris Thompson and Wendall Williams for what might only be one roster spot.

05/31/17DLDevon StillFootQUESTIONABLEStill, who underwent Lisfranc surgery in October, is nearing full health, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

Still appeared in just three games with the Texans throughout the 2016 season, notching three tackles before suffering the foot injury. The former second-rounder is no longer with Houston but could have several options elsewhere upon his return to full health.

05/23/17LBBrian CushingUndisclosedQUESTIONABLECushing did not participate in practice Tuesday due to an undisclosed injury, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

There's a fair level of obscurity regarding Cushing's injury, but without any further word, we're left assuming he'll be back relatively soon. Cushing has played through plenty of dings before, so his absence is likely the result of a precautionary measure more than anything else at the moment.

05/23/17TEC.J. FiedorowiczUndisclosedQUESTIONABLEFiedorowicz did not participate in Tuesday's OTA due to an undisclosed issue, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The nature of Fiedorowicz's current issue is unclear, but it's unlikely that he's dealing with any sort of severe injury at this point in the offseason. He figures to once again lead the tight end corps in Houston upon his return, but Ryan Griffin may see additional reps while Fiedorowicz watches from the sideline in the short term.

02/07/17LBTony WashingtonChestQUESTIONABLEWashington (chest) spent the 2016 season on injured reserve.

At the conclusion of the preseason, the 2015 undrafted free agent was waived/injured before getting placed on IR one day later. An unsubstantiated report from the Houston Chronicle on Sept. 8 claimed the Texans and Washington reached an injury settlement as the result of a chest injury, but he in fact remained on injured reserve throughout the campaign. As the offseason progresses, he'll look to compete for a depth role at outside linebacker.

01/26/17LBJadeveon ClowneyKneeQUESTIONABLEClowney (knee) had his fifth-year contract option exercised by the Texans on Friday, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The first overall pick in 2014, Clowney is now under contract with the Texans through the 2018 campaign. He's coming off minor arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in January, but if Clowney remains healthy, he could sign a long-term extension prior to next season. Nonetheless, the 24-year-old will now have the comfort of not yet entering a contract year. After moving from outside linebacker to defensive end last season, Clowney showed just why he was so highly regarded coming out of college, registering 52 tackles and six sacks in 14 games while being named to his first Pro Bowl.

01/25/17DBLonnie BallentineGroinQUESTIONABLEBallentine (groin) was placed on IR Saturday, Mark Berman of Fox 26 Houston reports.

Ballentine began the season on the PUP list due to a knee injury and suffered his groin injury just a few games after being activated. He'll finish the year with just two games played.

01/25/17DBK.J. DillonKneeQUESTIONABLEDillon (knee) was held out of practice Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Dillon has been rehabbing from the torn ACL he suffered last season. The team appears reluctant to throw him back in the fire just yet. With four months still between now and the regular season, the Texans will likely ease Dillon back into the swing of things.

01/25/17DBKurtis DrummondUndisclosedQUESTIONABLEDrummond was placed on injured reserve with a leg injury, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Drummond hurt his leg during preseason Week 1 against San Francisco.

01/25/17KKa'imi FairbairnQuadricepsQUESTIONABLEFairbairn has been placed on injured reserve, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Fairbairn was attempting to usurp the placekicking job from Nick Novak, but hadn't played in preseason Week 2 or 3 due to the injury. They like his potential and want to evaluate him as a future kicking option.

01/25/17DBKevin JohnsonFootQUESTIONABLEJohnson (foot) will not participate in the Texans' mandatory minicamp this week, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Johnson, who missed a majority of the 2016 season due to a broken bone in his foot, figures to be relied upon as a potential replacement for fellow cornerback A.J. Bouye. Johnson is on track to be ready for training camp in late July, but for now Johnathan Joseph and Kareem Jackson will continue to lead the way at cornerback.

01/25/17WRJaelen StrongAnkleQUESTIONABLEStrong (ankle) has been placed on injured reserve, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Strong has been sidelined since spraining his ankle in late October, and his season will now come to an end. He's appeared in just 18 games throughout the first two years of his career, and caught 28 total passes on 48 targets for 292 yards and three touchdowns, but no scores in 2016.

01/16/17DBQuintin DempsHamstringQUESTIONABLEDemps (hamstring) has signed a three-year contract with the Bears at an average salary of $4.5 million per season, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Demps was a special teams specialist early in his career until breaking out as a playmaker in the secondary over the last four years, when he generated 18 takeaways. He's coming off a career-year in which he intercepted six passes in 2016, and he'll likely be paired up as a starting safety with Adrian Amos. He's looking like an upside pick at the safety position in IDP leagues.

01/15/17RBTyler ErvinConcussionQUESTIONABLEErvin (concussion), a 2016 fourth-round draft pick, finished his rookie season with one carry for three yards and three catches for 18 yards (five targets) in 12 games. He returned 27 punts for 261 yards and 14 kickoffs for 263 yards, also losing a pair of fumbles on special teams.

Passing-down work represented Ervin's realistic path to early playing time on offense, but the Texans ultimately preferred both Lamar Miller and Jonathan Grimes to the rookie in those situations. Ervin thus got most of his reps on special teams, where a pair of lost fumbles outweighed his middling work picking up yards as a returner. It was a disappointing rookie season overall, but with a year under his belt and Grimes currently unsigned, Ervin could get more of a shot to contribute on passing downs in 2017. Miller still figures to be heavily involved through the air, but backup running back Alfred Blue is rarely used in obvious passing situations. Given his struggles with ball security as a rookie, it remains to be seen if Ervin will reprise his role as the primary return man for punts and/or kickoffs, but the team figures to at least give him some competition for the jobs. Ervin should have plenty of time to recover from the concussion he suffered during the playoffs before the start of Texans OTAs in mid-to-late April.
