Browns' Howard Wilson: Placed on PUP list
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilson (knee) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Monday, according to Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram.

The 2017 fourth-round pick broke his knee cap in rookie mini camp, so this move comes as no surprise. Wilson was able to avoid surgery, and a midseason return is possible. With Joe Haden and Jason McCourty figured as the Browns' starting cornerbacks, it's likely Wilson will be used as a depth option if and when he returns.

Browns' Jabrill Peppers: Signs rookie deal
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peppers signed a four-year deal worth about $10.3 million Sunday, reports.

On the eve before rookies were to report to training camp, Peppers ended any chance of a holdout by signing his rookie contract, becoming the last of Cleveland's rookies to ink a deal. Per the report, the 2017 first-round pick is slated to start the year as the team's starting strong safety and should return kickoffs and punts as well.

Browns' Duke Johnson: Slot receiver role anticipated
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Johnson is the top candidate to fill the Browns' starting slot receiver position, Mary Kay Cabot of reports.

Johnson is officially designated as a running back, but with Isaiah Crowell atop the depth chart there, his versatility is likely to allow him to see the field elsewhere. With 114 receptions for 1,048 yards through his first two seasons, Johnson has proven plenty capable in the passing game, and the Browns are in search of a slot replacement for the departed Andrew Hawkins. With the expectation that Johnson could start in that role, his fantasy value is only on the rise, which comes after he already averaged 4.9 yards per rush last season.

Browns' Isaiah Crowell: To benefit from upgrades elsewhere
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Crowell should benefit from the upgrades the Browns made to their offensive line this offseason, as well as the defense's expected ability to keep the score of games closer, Mary Kay Cabot of reports.

Crowell totaled 952 rushing yards despite getting just 198 carries last season. For reference, 19 players were handed the ball more times, yet only eight qualified tailbacks topped his 4.8 yards per rush. While Crowell enjoyed running behind the dominant left-sided duo of Joe Thomas and Joel Bitonio, the Browns fortified elsewhere up front by signing center JC Tretter and making Kevin Zeitler the highest-paid guard in the NFL this offseason. That improved blocking quality, along with a more competitive Browns defense, figures to allow the team to rely on the running game more, which should only help Crowell's quest for his first 1,000-yard campaign.
