Browns don't rule out signing Ray Rice with Johnson injury
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer

With rookie running back Duke Johnson dealing with a concussion, Browns coach Mike Pettine didn't rule out signing veteran back Ray Rice to help the team's backfield situation, per Cleveland.com.

Johnson has no timetable for his return, so Pettine, on a conference call, said "if we have to add a back, we'll look at the list of guys that are available," when asked about reaching out to Rice.

Rice has not played since 2013, missing all of last season while under suspension for a domestic violence incident with his wife. The Ravens terminated his contract after the issue.

Browns RB Duke Johnson dealing with concussion
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com

Browns running back Duke Johnson had to exit Saturday's preseason game after suffering a concussion, reports Cleveland.com. It was Johnson's first preseason game after dealing with a hamstring injury.

"Hopefully he'll be in the protocol and we can get him back as soon as possible," coach Mike Pettine said. "If you had to say the biggest downer of the night, that would be it."

Browns QB Johnny Manziel (elbow) out for rest of preseason
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Browns coach Mike Pettine said Thursday quarterback Johnny Manziel will not play during Saturday's preseason game against the Bucs due to a sore elbow and is also certain to miss the exhibition finale against Chicago.

The Browns signed quarterback Pat Devlin for quarterback depth with Manziel hurting. However, Pettine said Devlin probably wouldn't play Saturday, either.

Browns QB Johnny Manziel has no structural damage in elbow
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel underwent an MRI after experiencing elbow soreness earlier in the week. However, coach Mike Pettine said the MRI came back clean and did not reveal structural damage.

Pettine added Manziel, who did not throw Wednesday, has been dealing with elbow soreness since high school. Pettine expects the team to err on the side of caution and shut down Manziel for the rest of the week, which means he will likely miss Saturday's preseason game against the Bucs.

"Could he play [Saturday] if he had to?" Pettine said Wednesday, per Ohio.com. "More than likely he could. But why do that in the preseason?"

Manziel's latest issue flared up during Sunday's practice session. He also didn't throw Aug. 11 because his elbow was bothering him

The second-year quarterback has been having a decent preseason. He has completed 17 of 29 passes for 160 yards and one touchdown through two preseason games. He also rushed for 33 yards and one touchdown on five carries and has a 85.4 quarterback rating.

Browns QB Johnny Manziel sidelined with elbow soreness
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer

Browns backup quarterback Johnny Manziel did not throw at practice Monday due to elbow soreness, an injury that comes from his throwing motion, per Cleveland.com.

Offensive coordinator John DeFilippo said that Manziel's three-quarter throwing motion allows him to get the ball out quickly, but also leads to soreness due to the pressure put on the elbow. But the coach is not concerned this will become a long-term injury.

"Johnny has probably got what 30 or 40 percent of the other quarterbacks in the league have right now -- sore elbows, sore shoulders," DeFilippo said. "There's a lot of wear and tear on those guys in terms of their arm."
