Saints' Sean Payton: LB Hau'oli Kikaha set to play on the outside
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Saints coach Sean Payton told reporters he envisions Hau'oli Kikaha, who was drafted in the second round (44th overall), playing with the outside linebackers when he's on the field, per the team's official website.

"We see him as an outside player, whether it's Sam or Jack, we'll figure it out. We think he can play Sam," Payton said when asked if Kikaha was in line with the Junior Galette role. "You see him in that role in Washington. But certainly (we see him) with the outside linebackers."

Saints' Payton: I did not speak with Brees before drafting Grayson
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Saints coach Sean Payton told reporters he did not speak with Drew Brees prior to the draft, per the team's website. With the 75th overall pick, New Orleans selected Colorado State quarterback Garrett Grayson, who will compete with Ryan Griffin and Luke McCown to serve as Brees' backup next season.

"No, no. I think every year we are just constantly evaluating the players at positions," Payton said, per the team's official website. "I think it would be different if all of a sudden we are taking a quarterback in the first round and we had a different vision, but in our case it is pretty clear, we love our starter.

"It gives the young players behind him a chance to mature and develop. Look, nothing is given to any of these guys, you guys have been here long enough to see us operate as a staff. Garrett (Grayson) is going to have to come in and compete with Ryan (Griffin). He is going to have to compete with Luke (McCown), but no."

Payton: Andrus Peat won't compete for Saints' starting tackle spot
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

Despite drafting Stanford tackle Andrus Peat in the first round, Saints coach Sean Payton doesn't see him competing for a starting spot.

"I don’t see that initially," Payton said, per Saints.com.

The Saints have veterans Zach Strief and Terron Armstead at the two tackle spots.

"Terron and Zach we feel are ones of veteran experience," Payton said. "One’s a tremendous leader for us at right tackle and one’s a real sharp and talented left tackle. Andrus will come in and I’m sure we’ll give him reps at both positions."

Stephone Anthony: Saints LB coach 'an exciting guy to play for'
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

Stephone Anthony is excited to have the chance to play for the Saints' coaching staff. The Saints drafted the Clemson linebacker with their second pick of Thursday's first round.

Meeting with the New Orleans media on Friday, Anthony said, "I got the chance to meet with those guys at the combine. We had an actual meeting with coach Sean Payton, coach Rob Ryan, and coach Joe Vitt, the linebackers coach. He’s going to be an exciting guy to play for," per Saints.com.

Anthony said Vitt reminded him of his college coaches. "His energy. He’s a coach that’s going to get after you. He’s intense, and he has to be a fun guy to play for. I’ve been coached that way for the past four years," he said.
