Saints' Brandin Cooks: Expected to remain with Saints
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Head coach Sean Payton "absolutely" expects Cooks to be a member of the Saints in the 2017 season, Tom Pelissero of USA Today reports.

After he emerged from Week 12 without a target for the first time in his career, Cooks expressed frustration, spurring rumblings within the NFL that he may shopped in the offseason. Having said that, he has one year remaining on his rookie deal, which can become two seasons if the Saints exercise the 2018 option available to former first-round picks. With a March 3 deadline looming, such a decision would seemingly be a no-brainer for a wideout coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns and 17 touchdowns during that span.

Saints' Paul Kruger: Underwhelms as starter
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kruger had 25 tackles (19 solo) and 1.5 sacks in 16 games for the Saints last year. He also had one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.

Hoping to catch lightning in a bottle, the Saints signed Kruger -- only two years removed from a 11-sack season in Cleveland -- a few days before the start of the season. While Kruger served as a useful real-life starter opposite Cameron Jordan, the veteran defensive end did little to warrant the attention of fantasy owners. A free agent this offseason, Kruger could still return to New Orleans, though the team will likely look to draft a young pass rusher even if he re-signs. Regardless, with only four total sacks over his last two seasons, Kruger is unlikely to be a contributor to fantasy teams in 2017 no matter where he lands this offseason.

Saints' Marcus Murphy: Plays only three games in 2016
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Murphy appeared in only three games in 2016, gaining 105 yards on seven kickoff returns and 57 yards on six punt returns. He also caught one pass for three yards but did not receive a carry.

The writing is probably on the wall for Murphy, the Saints' seventh-round draft pick in 2015, who was last seen fumbling a kickoff out of bounds at the one-yard line in Week 11 last season. Murphy showed some flashes in the return game, but he is unlikely to return to New Orleans in 2017.

Saints' Tommylee Lewis: Excels as returner in rookie year
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lewis finished the 2016 season with seven receptions for 76 yards and three carries for 11 yards. He also had 152 yards on eight kickoff returns and 160 yards on 14 punt returns.

Lewis made the Saints' final 53-man roster out of training camp as an undrafted free agent from Northern Illinois. Although he's listed at only 5-foot-7, Lewis is an explosive athlete who lined up all over the field for the Saints. He particularly excelled as a returner, averaging over 11 yards per punt return and 19 yards per kickoff return. Lewis faces an uphill battle for playing time due to a crowded wide receiver depth chart, but the diminutive dynamo should enter the offseason as the favorite to return kicks for the Saints in 2017.
