Giants' Brandon Marshall: Studying new offense
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Marshall has been in communication with quarterback Eli Manning since the Giants' offseason program ended in hopes of easing his transition into the team's offense, ESPN's Jordan Raanan reports.

Marshall and Manning have been in touch through FaceTime, allowing the veteran receiver to clear up questions regarding things like timing and signals in New York's offense. The 33-year-old Marshall, who signed a two-year deal with the Giants this offseason, said he didn't start feeling comfortable in his new team's scheme until the last couple weeks of its offseason program. His continued work with Manning since then only figures to aid his acclimation process ahead of training camp. From there, Marshall will hope to provide a big-bodied target to complement the dynamic duo of Odell Beckham and Sterling Shepard alongside him.

Giants' Andrew Adams: Competing in training camp
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Adams was impressive during OTAs and could draw serious competition for the Giants' starting free safety position, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Safeties coach David Merritt said of the competition, "I'm going to be honest with you, you can sit here right now and say yes [it's Darian Thompson], but I can't sit here and take away from what Andrew Adams has done."

Adams notched 46 tackles, five passes defensed and one interception over 14 games last season as a replacement for Darian Thompson, who missed almost the entire year with a foot injury. However, with Thompson back to full health, it appears as if he is the favorite to claim the starting free safety role. While Adams is a dark horse, it's tough to rule out the 24-year-old completely, making this training camp battle quite intriguing.

Giants' Darian Thompson: Slated to start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Thompson is now healthy and slated to start at safety across from Landon Collins this season, the Giants' official site reports.

Thompson was supposed to be the Giants' starting free safety last season, but a foot injury limited the rookie to only two contests. Now healthy, Thompson is looking to make 2017 a bounce-back campaign after spending last season studying the defense on the sideline. However, backup Andrew Adams was impressive during OTAs and could give Thompson a run for his money during training camp.

Giants' Sterling Shepard: Trying to improve YAC
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Shepard is focused on improving his yards after the catch, Dan Salomone of Giants.com reports.

Shepard only dropped four passes while hauling in 65 of his 105 targets (62 percent) as a rookie, but his YAC average of 3.9 was among the NFL's worst for receivers who primarily played the slot. His poor work after the catch limited him to 6.5 yards per target with a long gain of 32 yards, likely contributing to the Giants' decisions to sign Brandon Marshall and draft TE Evan Engram. Combining the offseason additions with his own probable development, Shepard figures to improve on last year's efficiency but will have a tough time making another run at triple-digit targets.

Giants' Geno Smith: Limited at OTAs
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Smith (knee - ACL) was a limited participant during the Giants' OTAs, ESPN's Jordan Raanan reports.

Smith -- who tore his right ACL in Week 7 of last season -- declared himself 100 percent healthy in May, but the Giants evidently weren't convinced considering they prevented him from taking part in 11-on-11 drills during OTAs. It likely won't be long until he's back to full strength so we'll revisit Smith's status when training camp commences in late July.
