Michael Sam finds new home with CFL's Alouettes
by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer

Michael Sam signed a two-year deal with the CFL's Montreal Alouettes on Friday.

The former joint SEC Defensive Player of the Year participated in the NFL's first-ever veterans combine earlier this year, where he was confident he would be playing professional football again.

“I am very excited and proud to join the Montreal Alouettes and want to thank team Owner Robert Wetenhall, General Manager Jim Popp and Head Coach Tom Higgins for this opportunity,” Sam said. “I cannot wait to put on the pads, get back on the field and work hard each and every day with my teammates to bring a Grey Cup to the great fans here in Montreal.”

Sam was drafted in the seventh round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Rams before the team ultimately cut him. He joined the Cowboys' practice squad before being released in October. NFL Insider Jason La Canfora first reported Sam's signing.

Rams rookie Todd Gurley to be limited in offseason workouts
by Brandon Wise |

Rams top draft pick Todd Gurley is still working his way back from a torn ACL he suffered last year at Georgia. Gurley will be limited in his offseason workouts and conditioning programs as he recovers, according to

"I'm just gaining mental reps, basically just making sure I know what's going on," Gurley said. "Just listening to the play calls and making sure in my head that I've got it down. Just go through the plays in the back by myself that's always a good thing. Just walking through it while everybody else they have got this whole offense going, I'm in the back trying to make sure I'm on my stuff."

Coach Jeff Fisher is keeping tabs on Gurley and is impressed with how he's handled the situation so far.

"He's in the meetings," Fisher said. "He's learning the offense. He's killing the rehab. Hes paying attention in the walk-thrus. He's meeting his teammates. There were a lot of vets in here on Thursday when the guys got here. He's excited to be here. He'll definitely know what to do when he&'s able to get out there."
