Nationals' Jayson Werth: Continues power surge with another homer
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Werth went 1-for-4 with another home run Wednesday, his 20th of the year and fourth in the last six games.

Werth is hitting just .251 for the Nationals on the season, but continues to bat second in the lineup, behind rookie phenom Trea Turner and in front of sluggers Daniel Murphy and Bryce Harper. As a result, he's scored 72 runs on the season, and continues to see lots of opportunities to score and drive in runs.

Phillies' Adam Morgan: Handed ninth loss in quality start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Morgan (1-9) threw 6.2 strong innings, allowing two runs on just three baserunners while striking out five, but took the loss as he was outdone by Nationals starter Gio Gonzalez.

Wednesday's start was Morgan's best of what has been a brutal 2016, but he still took the loss as the Phillies offense managed just one run all night. Morgan entered the night with a 6.50 ERA, having allowed six or more runs on five separate occasions. But the Phillies are in rebuilding mode, and have been content to keep rolling the 26-year-old left-hander out there. They were rewarded Wednesday, although fantasy owners might need more than one good start to be convinced that Morgan has turned the corner.

Rays' Kevin Kiermaier: Stays hot with three-hit effort Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kiermaier went 3-for-5 with a run in Wednesday's 8-6 loss to the Red Sox.

The 26-year-old now has a five-game hitting streak and finished August with seven multi-hit efforts. Kiermaier managed to bring his average up 20 points to .228 since August 1, after a forgettable July in which he slashed .143/.333/.214. Despite a long absence earlier in the summer due to a wrist injury, he's now just four homers away from eclipsing his career-best figure of 10 that he's managed in each of his previous two seasons.

Nationals' Gio Gonzalez: Stifles Phillies for 10th win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gonzalez (10-9) was dominating Wednesday, throwing six innings while allowing just one run on two hits and a walk, striking out four to earn his 10th win of the season against the Phillies.

Gonzalez's lone blemish was a solo home run by Freddy Galvis in the fifth inning. Gonzalez is now 4-1 with a 3.26 ERA and 1.03 WHIP over his last seven starts, lowing his ERA to 4.14 on the year. While that would be the highest ERA of Gonzalez's career, he's still striking out nearly a batter an inning, and his 1.31 WHIP is an improvement over the 1.42 mark he posted in 2015.

Rays' Brad Miller: Finishes August with 26 RBI
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Miller went 2-for-4 with a first-inning RBI ground-rule double and walk in Wednesday's 8-6 loss to the Red Sox.

The hot-hitting first baseman opened the scoring by plating Kevin Kiermaier in the first with a ground-rule double, which gave him 26 RBI for August overall. That figure is double the total of his previous high in that category, which he set in July. Miller has come alive at the plate in the second half despite having to endure a position switch due to the acquistion of Matt Duffy, slashing .289/.361/.592 with 11 doubles, a triple, 11 homers and 32 RBI over 152 at-bats.
