Bills report: Notes, quotes

Notes, quotes · Strategy and personnel · Inside slant

--Coach Dick Jauron, when asked about having Bill Parcells in the AFC East Division heading up Miami's football operations, said Parcells' resume "speaks for itself. I think any division would hope he'd be in another division because he's always been successful. That's a great franchise. They have a great history and they're going to be back and pose a threat. I love our division. I love the rivalries so in that regard it makes it better. It makes it stronger and we've just got to prepare that much harder and do all of the right things to compete."

--The Bills didn't conduct a full interview with QB Trent Edwards at last year's Indianapolis scouting combine, but there was good reason: he had food poisoning. The way he handled himself, though, impressed QB coach Alex Van Pelt. "We had him in the room last year and he was sick with food poisoning and white as a ghost and throwing up all day," Van Pelt told buffalobills.com. "He gutted it out. He wasn't sure he'd throw in the workout on Sunday but he showed up and did it. That stood out. He easily could not have thrown but he sucked it up and did well. That was my first impression: this kid's a tough kid."

--Jauron said injured starters Jason Peters (groin) and Paul Posluszny (broken arm) have recovered from their injuries and each is expected to take part to some degree in the club's off-season program. Speaking of Posluszny, Jauron said "In terms of his rehab, he's fully recovered. He really pushes himself. His rehab was outstanding and in other areas too. He just is a worker. He loves to play and is a very smart guy. We believe we have a good one. He was playing well when he got hurt. Hopefully he'll just continue and get better."

--Free agent LB Josh Stamer is interested in landing with a team where he can play more than special teams, he told the LeMars, Iowa Daily Sentinel. "I think it will be best to try to move on to bigger and better things," he said. "I think I can be more."

--The Bills terminated the contracts of two veteran backups before the start of free agency: RB Anthony Thomas and LB Coy Wire. Each player missed long stretches last year with injuries. Thomas, the 2001 NFL Rookie of the Year with Chicago, had just 36 carries last season and sat out the final five games with a calf injury. He lost the No. 2 role to Fred Jackson and was made expendable. Wire, a third-round pick in 2002, was among the team's most tenured players and became a special team's stalwart. He missed nine games last season with neck and knee injuries. The Bills are expected to address the linebacker position this off-season and made roster space by terminating Wire's contract.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"A lot of things happened (last) season that prevented us from getting to where we wanted. If we can go through all this and come that close to the playoffs, if we get all our guys back from injuries, I feel we'll be that much closer. Plus we'll have some new additions with free agency and the draft that will make us more ready." -- CB Terrence McGee.
