Bills report: Notes, quotes

Notes, quotes · Inside slant · Strategy and personnel

--The Bills met with Vikings DT Jimmy Kennedy, a 2003 first-round pick of the Rams who was once labeled a draft bust but who resurrected his career last season. Kennedy, 6-5, 320, has mostly played in 4-3 schemes but did see time over the nose in St. Louis.

--DE Aaron Schobel, 32, the team's No. 2 all-time sack leader, was due to earn a $2 million roster bonus on March 10 but did not take the physical necessary to collect it. Schobel remains in his native Texas pondering retirement. He told several news outlets he's not ready to make up his mind -- the Bills are getting anxious -- but that if he does decide to play, it will be for the Bills not another team.

--Former Bills backup QB Gibran Hamdan has landed in Toronto with the Argos. Unlike many former NFL players who land up north, Hamdan doesn't view the CFL as a football wasteland, quite the contrary. He's engaged to Jenny Grant, granddaughter of legendary coach Bud Grant, who once coached the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Hamdan told the Toronto Sun that Grant told him to ask Toronto officials about the famous Fog Bowl -- the 1962 Grey Cup game between the Argos and Grant's Blue Bombers that was played over two days due to heavy fog. "I have such a reverence for the game and country that was instilled in me," Hamdan said.

--Bills UFA wide receiver Josh Reed has drawn interest from rival New England and visited with the coaching staff. Bill Belichick has long admired Reed's possession-style game and run-after-the-catch ability. It would be a good fit for Reed, 29, who got lost in the chaos of last season's quarterback troubles.

--WR James Hardy, who recovered from ACL surgery in 2008 to work his way back into the lineup last year, is Buffalo's 2009 Ed Block Courage Award winner as voted by teammates. Hardy caught just one pass for nine yards but inspired his teammates by the way he worked and stayed positive. He'll have a chance to start in 2010, replacing Terrell Owens, a player he credited for his encouragement and advice during his long rehab process.

--LB Kawika Mitchell is traveling through Uganda with New York Giants defensive end and Uganda native Mathias Kiwanuka on a charity effort. Mitchell is blogging about his experiences on the team's website (www.buffalobills.com).

QUOTE TO NOTE
"I love the Bills. There's a lot of tradition. I'm glad to have the opportunity to play here and be a part of the pride, history and tradition." -- New OT Cornell Green.
