Bills report: Notes, quotes
--First the offensive line, now the secondary. Buffalo's decision to release veterans or not sign its own free agents has created gaps in its lineup that didn't exist when last season ended. The latest hole appeared when veteran strong safety Pierson Prioleau was cut to free cap space. The former starter quickly signed with Washington and a reunion with defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, the Bills former head coach. Buffalo wanted Prioleau back, but he didn't like sitting behind Lawyer Milloy. The end result is that the Bills lost a very good player and their depth was weakened. They now have two safety spots to fill with Prioleau and UFA Izell Reese out of the picture.
--The highlight of Buffalo's preseason schedule will be a cameo appearance at Ralph Wilson Stadium by Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre. Buffalo opens on the road at Indianapolis before coming home to host the Packers in what very likely is Favre's last NFL season. The Bills and Packers last played in the preseason in 1997 in Toronto. The Bills then travel to Chicago and wrap up the preseason back at home against Detroit. Times and dates for the games are yet to be announced.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"When I came back from the injury, I was more concerned about the leg than anything, but again, it was a golden opportunity. I learned how focusing on your leg is going to affect your play. I learned how going in unprepared - I didn't think I'd play that first week - and it showed. It just put things in perspective for me, how real it is. Throw that pass in college, it's going to get picked. Do the same things over and over in the NFL, and it's not good for your team. It was a good way to learn." - New starting quarterback J.P. Losman talking about his brief game appearances his rookie year.
