Bills report: Notes, quotes
--GM Tom Donahoe on RB Travis Henry, who has been on the trading block for more than two months: "We think Travis is a staring running back in the league and he's proven what he can do, and he's been to a Pro bowl and he's had production and he's been consistent. We just feel that to make a trade, we want something that's equal value. We may get it, we may not." Donahoe didn't mention Henry's fumbling and injury problems.
--GM Tom Donahoe said he has offered Tom Modrak, his top assistant, the title of general manager "about five times," but each time Modrak has declined the promotion. Modrak, who helped build the Steelers and Eagles into playoff powers, is regularly mentioned as a candidate for any GM job that comes free in the NFL. "Tom's great at what he does," Donahoe said. "There's no doubt in my mind he should be a general manager. He has been passed over a couple of times, and I think it has been somebody else's mistake but I think it has been to our advantage." Modrak, who runs Buffalo's college scouting operation, said he's not interested in becoming Buffalo's GM in title, because he's married to the road life. "I think Tom (Donahoe) does such a great job at what he's doing that I'm not sure I could contribute enough to make that (worthwhile)," Modrak said. "(And) I like being on the road. I like doing what I do. ... And if you take that job you can't be out (scouting on the road) that much. Believe me, I've thought about it a lot. Sometimes in the middle of October when I'm out for a long stretch, I've really thought about it."
QUOTE TO NOTE
"You could do a lot of things with him, create all kinds of mismatch problems. With Coach Mularkey's scheme, he likes to throw wrinkles into his offense and he's a kid he'd love to have. With his size and speed ... he can create nightmares for defenses trying to scheme him. He's one of the fastest players in the draft, and one of the tallest, so with that combination, he can get down field and make plays, just get him the ball anyway possible." - Bills scout Shawn Heinlen on Arkansas' Matt Jones, a 6-5 QB who is projected as a WR or TE at the NFL level.
