--The Bengals released an updated depth chart Aug. 4. Fullback Jeremi Johnson, still not on the field because of weight-related issues, has been demoted from starter to fourth string. Daniel Coats is the new No. 1 fullback, with Bradley Glatthaar moving up to No. 2.

At strong-side linebacker, Ahmad Brooks has dropped from No. 2 to third, with Darryl Blackstock moving up from third to second.

At punt returner, cornerback Deltha O'Neal has assumed the first position, ahead of wide receiver Antonio Chatman.

--For three seasons (2003-05), Bengals wide receiver Antonio Chatman was with the Green Bay Packers. He had 61 receptions in his time there, five for touchdowns, and his quarterback was Brett Favre. Chatman was surprised Thursday when teammates told him Favre had been traded to the New York Jets for a conditional fourth-round draft pick.

"It shocked me. I didn't know. A couple of guys told me," Chatman said after practice. "It's sad. I thought for sure Brett would retire with the Packers. You go back to how Jerry Rice ended his career."

Rice, the long-time San Francisco 49ers great in their Super Bowl era, played in Oakland and Seattle.

"Would you ever want to see (quarterback) John Elway with anybody but Denver?" Chatman said. "I think Brett made his decision to retire a little early in the offseason. He probably should have waited."

Chatman spent 2005 with Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay's new starter. The Bengals played Monday night in their preseason opener at Lambeau Field. Chatman said he expects Favre to still play at a high level for the Jets. The Bengals will play at the Meadowland Oct. 12 against the Jets. Favre is coming off one of his most productive seasons in his long career; he threw for 4,155 yards and had 28 touchdowns against just 15 interceptions.

"Donald Driver and I always used to mess with Brett," Chatman said of the Packers star receiver.

--Bengals running backs coach Jim Anderson is starting his 25th season with the club.

"It's kind of a fantastic thing. I'm just as excited as I was the first one," Anderson said. "It's just that the apprehension is gone."

Anderson, who turned 60 in March, joined the Bengals after working as an assistant coach for four seasons at Stanford.

"I'm grateful to Sam Wyche, who brought me to Cincinnati, and the Brown family and all the other coaches I have worked for; it's been an honor and a pleasure to work for everyone," Anderson said.

Anderson has had five Pro Bowl players: James Brooks (4); Harold Green (1); Corey Dillon (3); Lorenzo Neal (1); and Rudi Johnson (1).

QUOTE TO NOTE
"You no longer see Marvin (Lewis) coaching every position on defense. Marvin told me this summer, `I don't get a chance to say anything. Zim's got the whole defense locked down.'" -- Bengals 13th-year offensive tackle Willie Anderson, on the impact of first-year defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.

Right now it is looking like the Steelers and Ravens are going to struggle to get into the playoffs.  The Bengals need to show they ...(more)

Well first of all it is great to have swept the AFC North. Even the people who belived the Bengals would make the playoffs would have a hard time selling the Bengals sweeping the AFC North especially after the seasons the Steelers and ...(more)

A win is a win, thats what you always hear. But the Cleveland victory has to be an eye opener for us Bengal fans. Losing to the Raiders and beating the Browns 16-7 doesn't scream optimism. At some point we have to realize that we're in the same conference as the ...(more)

Heres the facts:- This game meant nothing to us today, going in there was no drama, no hype, no rivalry etc etc etc- We played to the level of our competition- Were missing our #1 balancing act to the Offense: benson, thats my only concern- We completely gave that game away and beat ourselves more than once today, usually Im one to give the other team credit, and Gradkowski made some big thro ...(more)

I like him so much, he's powerful, fast, and young. Such a great compliment to Cedric Benson, does anybody else think this kid is going to take over the starting job at some point in the future? He isn't like some of the other backs we've had in the past who we thought would work out and didn't. This kid actually looks like a rea ...(more)

The other team focuses on our Air Attack, We run it down there throats, and Our D wins? Recipe for W's.
Concerns: Bensons health...and that it....
Palmer and passing game is fine, we learned how to run the ball in his absence last year, and our D can get up for anybody! We play to our level of competitiion ...(more)

The 2009 Bengals are the first team in franchise history to go undefeated against their division in the regular season. This truly shows how talented they are. Going undefeated in the maybe the toughest division in the NFL is a tremendous feat. No one can say the Bengals are not for real after this accomplishment. Congratulations Bengals! G ...(more)

Bengals fans, Congrats on your 16-7 win over the Browns. It was a very good game. Good luck next week when you take on the Lions on your home turf. It should be another good game.

You have heard it all before....but this is a classic case of the Bengals beating themselves rather than a win for the Raiders. Numerous stupid penalties....Ultra conservative play calling.....turnovers and not one of them was caused by the Raiders.  This was horrible...How the ...(more)

Palmer has one one TO in his last 4 games (I think).  He is your leader, and a veteran.  It needs to be in his hands to win the game.  You dont give it to the FB on the 15, you punch that ball in and win the game.  I mean that was terrible.  With Palmer's thumb injury, you are asking for trouble when you turn around and hand the ball off to any back who isnt on the same pa ...(more)

WOW...some of you so called "Bengals fans" are really starting to tick me off a little bit on these boards. Here's a fact for you, if at the start of the season someone told you the Bengals would be in 1st place in the AFC North with a 7-3 record and sweeps of the Pittsburgh ...(more)
