Browns report: Notes, quotes

--Any hope the Browns had of Joe Jurevicius making a miracle comeback from complications following a staph infection has vanished. At 4 p.m. Monday, the window for the Browns to begin practicing him while he remains on reserve/physically-unable-to-perform list will close.

"We will be coming out with a statement about Joe toward the end of the week or the beginning of next week about what his status is," coach Romeo Crennel said Wednesday. "Generally, it doesn't look very good."

Jurevicius had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee in January. Two weeks later a staph infection developed. He had at least three operations to clean out the staph, most recently on July 1.

Jurevicius would have been the third receiver when everyone was healthy, but he would have been a starter during the four weeks Donte Stallworth was recovering from a strained quadriceps injury.

Jurevicius, 33, said at the end of last year this would be his last season. He still has one year left on his contract.

--The first time the Browns met the Ravens was an emotional game. The Ravens were in their fourth year in Baltimore after leaving Cleveland. The Browns were a stumbling expansion team. The Browns intercepted three passes from Stoney Case -- one by Daylon McCutcheon, one by Lenoy Jones and one by Rahim Abdullah. All the Browns had to show for the takeaways was a 17-10 loss. It was just the second start for rookie quarterback Tim Couch. Couch fumbled on the Browns 1 after being sacked by Peter Boulware. Case scored on the next play.

--Jamal Lewis rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries last season when the Browns beat the Ravens, 33-30, in overtime. In that game, Braylon Edwards caught eight passes for 85 yards.

--The Browns intercepted three passes in two games against the Ravens last season. Leigh Bodden picked off one when the Browns won, 27-13, in Cleveland and Brodney Pool and Sean Jones each had an interception in Baltimore. Pool returned his 100 yards for a touchdown.

--Kellen Winslow caught 21 passes in four games against the Ravens before being held to two catches in the game played Sept. 21.

BY THE NUMBERS
36 -- The Browns have been outscored by 36 points, 45-9, in the third quarter this season.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"I've got this quote right here: 'Without struggle there is no progress.' I live by that quote. It's just going to make me stronger." -- Kellen Winslow, referring to a tattoo on his arm, after being suspended and then returning to the Browns

Hey guys, I just want to mention that I'm not a Browns hater, my dad is a Browns fan and I always pull for them(unless they are against the Steelers), but I don't get to see them play often.  I watched the 2nd half of last nights game and from what I saw the defense looks solid. ...(more)

The idea behind this thread is simple: pick your ideal executive VP, GM, head coach, and coordinators.

In a perfect world, who would you want making the decisions for the Cleveland Browns?

Here's mine:

This is the worst offense to ever take the field in the NFL. Daboll needs to resign/be fired. Brady Quinn will not succeed until we have nfl talent surrounding him. He needs recievers that can catch the ball. And he also needs a tight end that can help out. He can't drop back and pass, because he has AT MOST...2 seconds to drop b ...(more)

How much longer are Browns fans going to tolerate a franchise that can't get out of it's own way?  I'm serious.  It's been ten mostly miserable seasons for this team.  We never won any titles in my lifetime, but before Modell took his team east, we weren't the bottom of the barrel either.  We were always proud.&n ...(more)

So, all the rumour is that Holmgren has been interviewed, which has lead my to check CBS, PFT, NFL and the national enquirer hourly to see if he's been hired.  But as PFT pointed out the Rooney Rule applies to HO personnel as well.  So, who could Lerner interview that could be remotely plausible.  I don't think lunch with Jim Brown would count, and unless he cornered Ozzie on Monday ...(more)

According to the PD and Jim Brown, Lerner was interviewing Mike yesterday for the director of pro football operations and probably GM role. Not sure if they'd announce it now or just wait until the season is over after they can Mangini, which seems inevitable.

While I'm sure Mike will be better than anyone else we have, I'd much prefer him as coach than GM.

Opinions?

(POLL) Okay so it has become evidently clear that many people  who are Browns fans are more than willing to give up on Eric Mangini, if not downrigh torture him.  Put away the torches for a minute and think rationally and subjectively.  Do you thinnk it is fair to get rid of a coach that has only been allowed to coach a team for 8 w ...(more)

It seems like "Mangina" loves to blame the defense for the losses.  Well guess what man.  the offense is terrible and that leads to points.   the defense played great last night, except for one play where they only had ten people on the field.  the defense improves as the offense, well doesn't exist.

Mangini makes the right call, It's a bit early to call it but with the resent hold out of Crabtree. Mangini is looking like Man-genus.
Yahoo sports Dave Wetzel reports. "Now the Niners’ dream pick has turned nightmare. In a convoluted strategy, Crabtree didn'tis threatening to sit out the 2009 season by negotiating off mock drafts which didn’t occur rather than the

I as well as the rest of the Detroit media has predicted this.

You may have the worst offense in the NFL in the past 80 years, but the Lions have the worst owership and management
in the last 50 years...Enjoy the win and the newly found endzone.
