Cowboys report: Notes, quotes

Notes, quotes · Strategy and personnel · Inside slant

--CB Terence Newman became the seventh Cowboys player named to the Pro Bowl team, replacing injured Cardinals cornerback Dominique Rodgers Cromartie. This is Newman's second trip to the Pro Bowl. Tight end Jason Witten, guard Leonard Davis, center Andre Gurode, receiver Miles Austin, linebacker DeMarcus Ware and nose tackle Jay Ratliff were voted in.

--C Andre Gurode has pulled out of the Pro Bowl after undergoing a minor surgery cleanup on his knee. Gurode was voted as the NFC starter and would have made his fourth straight trip to the all-star game.

--Joining the players at the Pro Bowl will be the Cowboys coaching staff led by head coach Wade Phillips. The Cowboys will coach the NFC squad at the Pro Bowl.

--The Cowboys will have picks in the first, second, third, fourth, sixth and seventh rounds in the April draft. The team's scouts will get started in the process by going en masse to the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., next week while the coaches are at the Pro Bowl. Owner Jerry Jones will split his time between the Senior Bowl and Pro Bowl.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"Everybody in this locker room made it further than they have here, so that's definitely a positive and a plus -- the fact that we won in December, and the fact that we won our first playoff game (since 1996). It's a stepping stone, but at the same time, if you look at the overall goal, it's still a failure." -- Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman.
